It was southern back then. I'm 34, but I remember seeing all sorts of confederate shit everywhere when I was a lad. Hell, the HS was Stonewall Jackson, wonder if it still is, or if it'd been hashtag cancelled yet. I wouldn't call rattlesnake weird, just not really worth eating. They're kind of a bitch to hunt and the meat to time ratio is pretty disproportionate. We'd eat them all the time when we went to west Texas in boy scouts along with fried crickets. Same with iguana (locals in Belize loved it), chicken/pigs feet, certain poverty foods.

This map is pretty bad DESU. Pickle dog, meth, biscuits with chocolate gravy, are the only ones that are weird and disgusting. I like my teeth so meth is a pass, but I've had amphetamines before; the teeth grinding and desire to masturbate for hours are a so so.

>ITT no one thinks that their regional specialty food that they have grown accustomed to could be considered even slightly strange or weird to someone who's never heard of it
It's all perfectly edible food, especially for adventurous eaters. But people who haven't tried boiled peanuts do think that sounds pretty weird. It's something I would never have considered to have existed or think of doing on my own having grown up in New England. When I encountered them the first time, I thought wow how different! I don't usually take a "weird" attitude towards food, since I'm adventurous and interested in trying just about all foods aside from the truly out there things like bugs aside from fried crickets, camel piss, some of the extremely disgusting looking sea creatures I've seen in Asian WebM's, any kind of feces or food that is known to make people ill, etc. There are probably lots of people interested in food and cooking who have similar feelings or at least are willing to eat nearly anything from the western world at least once. I'm surprised that rocky mountain oysters didn't make the list, which is something that many people consider totally weird even though it's just another part of the animal that can be enjoyed and there's really no reason to wretch over testis when they eat eggs straight out of the cloaca every morning.

SC anon here... “chitterlings” or ‘chitlens’ (typical pronunciation) is literal nigger food from colonial times. White people didn’t eat the intestines, so we gave them to the niggers.
