I graduated with a 30 something year old Ethiopian woman who cooked with me sometimes.

Pros: Tasty, light, healthy.

Cons: Long cook time, easy to fuck up, and if you want the best quality you want to find an African market that's locally owned. We tried cooking with stuff from the Piggly Wiggly, but it didn't turn out nearly as good.

I once made some but didnt realise the bread needed to be rested for 24hours, so i was left with 2 curries and no bread thing, so i fried up tortillas instead. The spice on the lamp i made was too strong.

I remember there was an ethiopian food thread in around 2013 or so and it was a really good thread with maybe only two joke posts lol, goes to show how much ck has changed

Absolutely delicious, I had an Eritrean place I'd be going to for 14 years that closed a couple years ago; the couple that ran it retired. Pic related was my last meal there.

I've tried 4 or 5 other Ethiopian / Eritrean places, and none have been as good.

It's lousy.
It's just new and exciting to you if you haven't had literally ever other country's cuisine in the middle east, persia, turkey, the levant, the mediterranean, the caribbean or south americna, or anywhere in India or Pakistan.
This alone is why you think it's good.

Everyone else else who dips bread into simmered dishes do it BETTER. It's just novelty food. Eventually you'll get a better palate and appreciate the fine bread making skills from everything that is literally not made from teff flour in a gummy uncooked dough flavor. You'd appreciate some of the facts that browning is flavor and texture both. Eventually you'll have some simmered greens that don't have a bunch of sugar thrown into it, or uses hard boiled eggs as the protein at hand.

I've only had it once but it was great. Lots of fun to eat and so many different great flavors in every part of the meal.
I really find it fascinating when people in these threads whine about the appearence of other cultures' foods, or about the fact that they have interesting eating styles / flavor palates. You really don't see that kind of childish impetulance anywhere else. In general one gets the sense that /ck/ is mostly devoid of 4chan's underage problem, due to all of the people here who talk about their jobs and their cooking. But it's threads like this that bring out the people who are posting fast food threads, and reveals them to be literal children. Because no adult would possibly turn down a delicious meal because it "looks yucky" without at least giving it a chance.
