Is high fructose corn syrup really as people say. The wikipedia article says there's no evidence it's worse than table sugar

It certainly tastes worse

Yes, its just as bad as sugar and sugar is terrible for you.
You might as well get some heroin while you are at it.

a) all pure sugar is pretty bad

you dont have to go full ketard to realize sugar makes up far too much of the modern diet

In an otherwise healthy diet it doesn't seem to really cause any issues if your consumption is under 40g per day or so. But when you're consuming closer to 100g of sugar on top of a bunch of other processed starchy foods then your blood sugar is just constantly fucked.

Probably not, you've already noticed how people have a tendancy to latch onto a single idea and like a man with a hammer every problem becomes a nail, so soon everything is because of evil HFCS
>is it worse than sugar
Sugar is glucose bound with fructose, glucose is easier to metablolise and a basic requirement for your body. Fructose is similar but needs to be converted in the liver by insulin, fructose is something we have efficent metabolism pathways for but like anything, too much can be a problem. If you could choose, you'd choose to eat normal sucrose over pure fructose 99% of the time

My point was "People are so stuck in their belief structures you're often wasting your time expecting anything but to be read a script." See the vegans and the keto cult.

To the credit of a few, for once, they said its more or less right, and that sugar in general needs to be limited. Not really the norm on this board.

The two arguments I've heard are:
1 - it tastes worse.
2 - it's less sweet so you use more.

They both sound like bad things, but they're probably subjective.

Beyond that, corn syrup a byproduct of our broken farm subsidy system. Corn shouldn't be as cheap as it is, but farmers make their money from corn subsidies. They actually loose money on growing the corn.

It's not majorly different from regular sugar. Table sugar is a 50/50 mixture of glucose and fructose. HFCS 55(most common type of hfcs) is 55% fructose and 45% glucose.

Not the guy you reponded to but if you actually look at nutrition facts on your food you will notice that most things contain at least a gram or two of sugar per serving. The many health organizations recommends no more than 16 grams of sugar to be consumed in a day. If you start looking at your food you can see how this will quickly add up, even without obviously sugary foods.

the problem with fructose is that its' metabolic pathways lacks regulatory checkpoints that glucose has, jacks up your insulin levels which sooner or later translates into diabetes
