It's getting really expensive, and I don't know why. I live in a rancher town near the border of Argentina. Meat should be cheap here. We also raise load of lamb and lamb is even more expensive. I don't understand.

Global demand going up but red meat has always been more expensive too, probably because of cows requiring more resources to raise. Might be why a lot of cultures value the milk they get from cows so much instead. Pork and fish were generally the more common proteins eaten for most of history it seems.

We are returning to the olden ways. Red meat will be a fortune that the average man will taste only on major holidays. You will feed instead on bug paste and vegemite.

>Why?
Supply chains in some countries have been negatively affected due to the epidemic.
This can make it harder for those countries to meet their demands.
Which generally leads to willingness to pay more for imports and/or more imports.
Therefore, for those who can still export meat, exporting would be more profitable than it usually is.
So if your area exports meat, it makes more sense for them to export more meat than they normally would.
Which would leave less meat left for local selling, which is less supply for the same demand so price goes up. Or, they have to raise the local prices to justify missing out on the exporting profits.

It's because so much is exported. Which is not bad because it brings wealth into the country. But it creates funny situation where you can drive past thousands of lambs on the way to supermarket go in there and find a leg going for 50 bucks. I guess it not so bad to buy a premium grass fed lamb leg for maybe 2.5 hours wage? Not same country but that's what they go for here. It's about the same for a leg as the profit a farmer finishing them makes on the whole lamb by the time he buys it and fatten it up for a couple months

China buys more crap meat than high end. They take old mutton and put workers paid $2 per hour to it to bone it out and make meat for hot pots and stuff. Same old mutton that would be dog food or free meat for farm workers, now worth 5x as much
