They're for tray tables/eating on your sofa on a cold night, in front of the fireplace and TV for some people who work hardass jobs, who just absolutely must put their feet up and relax, not even sit up at a dinner table, like single people or older couples. It's OCD and Japanese friendly too.

They don't go nicely in a home dishwasher like they do at the neighborhood cafeteria. I would only buy one if you had proverbial toddlers in your family who can't have their food ever touch. I think melamine has a carcinogenistic and nerve damage link now, as well, a pretty credible one, so some of those fun patio items from Grandma need to be trashed. A lot of asian restaurants have those melamine soup bowls :(

OP, I have a lot of cabinetry for storage, so I pick up a few of these "snack trays" which are excellent for parties ever so often at goodwill and thrift stores. I probably have 50 now. The guests love them. These guys fit into the dishwasher, let people walk around with their food and hold their drink in the same hand right on top. Seems like a simple way to deal with everything along with portion control. Carrying everything from the serving area to the dining room table in one vessel seems pretty good. Also easier to clean since it's one thing.

I'm tempted.

It's great for really small children. The portioning helps them keep their food from being wasted and the compartments help them with not getting their food mixed up.

Looks bland and sterile. Also, I may get some disagreement out of this, but ketchup on meatloaf is the rankest sort of culinary heresy.
I'm not some ketchup hating frog or some shit, but a well seasoned and properly cooked meatloaf will have plenty of juice as to not need the assistance of a sauce, and ketchup is excellent for obliterating most preexisting flavors.
