Depends on how long I want to cook the sauce. If its a nice slow cooked sauce then no sugar. If its a low effort quick sauce then yes I will add a bit of sugar to take away the sourness of the tomatoes.

This is the worse meme. Sweetness never has and never will cancel out sourness. You just get sugar as well. Pickle liquid is sweet and sour, sweet and sour sauce is sweet and sour. A base will neutralise an acid, but sugar wont.

You guys are retarded you realize carrots have sugar in them.

You are just adding sugar to your pasta sauce except in amounts that are unknown.

1 carrot has about 3/4tsp of sugar. So if you toss a couple carrots in there, you might as well poured in a little sugar. Same thing if you added wine or tomato paste. Except each carrot is different so it is very easy to over or under sweeten your dish.

I swear the amount of retardation on this board astounds me.

Glad to know you get your health information from mommy blogs.

When HFCS or refined sugar is added to processed foods it is usually in very large quantities. This makes the processed food or soda very calorie dense and typically unhealthy for a person to consume as there is little other nutritional value. The sugar in fruits and veggies is almost chemically identical to refined sugar.

The important difference for dieting is that 1 cup of orange soda is equal to like 10 oranges worth of sugar. You don't normally eat 10 oranges, but it is very easy to drink a cup of soda. So with very calorie dense food items it is extremely easy to overconsume.

In this case we are talking about adding 3grams of sugar to a pot of sauce. As long as it is evenly dispersed there will be no caloric or health difference between something sweetened with sugar from a carrot vs. refined sugar. You're essentially saying 1lb of bricks weighs more than 1lb of feathers. In short you are retarded.

now for your source:
"Unfortunately, the metabolic effects of orange juice are very different than those of the fruit. Orange juice does retain the vitamins found in oranges, but the fiber content is very different. During juice processing, fiber is usually filtered out or pulverized, reducing its beneficial, pro-satiety effects. The juice’s dissolved sugar is thus efficiently absorbed by the small intestine and enters the blood quickly [12]. Consuming juice raises your blood sugar rapidly; after the subsequent blood sugar “crash,” you’ll soon be hungry again."
oh look the source of the sugar does impact the health difference!

Never dude. If you think that eating a raw carrot is the same thing as cooking down a carrot in a stew and extracting the natural sugars you're a fucking idiot. How do you even think they make refined sugars.

The whole reason you metabolize the sugars differently in the example you posted is exactly what I said in my post. Juice and soda has sugar in large quantities for a small amount of mass, AKA CALORIE DENSE. With raw fruits and veggies you have to break down the fibers in order for your body to absorb the sugar, meaning you get the nutrients slower. Hence why I said you would have to eat 10 oranges to equal the same amount of sugar that is in 1 glass of OJ. You have the same amount of sugar, but your body has to digest significantly more material to get to it.

If it is evenly distributed throughout the sauce, LIKE I SAID IN MY POST, it is the same exact shit. Unless you have raw carrot chunks in your point is invalid. Stop being so dumb please.

right so when you have to digest the carrot to get at the sugar the interaction is different than if you added refined sugar directly

>. During juice processing, fiber is usually filtered out or pulverized, reducing its beneficial, pro-satiety effects. The juice’s dissolved sugar is thus efficiently absorbed by the small intestine and enters the blood quickly

So if you take a raw carrot and cook it down or put it in a juicer to extract sugars and moisture you are literally making refined sugar and you will metabolize it as such. How do you think refined sugar is made????

>right so when you have to digest the carrot to get at the sugar the interaction is different than if you added refined sugar directly

NO YOU ARE NOT. You cooked down the carrot and extracted the sugar. Like I said unless you leave raw carrot pieces in your sauce, you are not digesting more material. Cooking is extracting the sugars and spreading them evenly throughout the sauce.

>except the point where its not, but you are now arguing against harvard

No it's not oversimplifying it literally watch a video.

It consists of chopping beets and then cooking it in boiling water to extract the natural sugars.

You are all retarded please understand how dumb you are.

>Extraction
The processing starts by slicing the beets into thin chips. This process increases the surface area of the beet to make it easier to extract the sugar. The extraction takes place in a diffuser where the beet is kept in contact with hot water for about an hour. Diffusion is the process by which the colour and flavour of tea comes out of the tea leaves in a teapot but a typical diffuser weighs several hundred tons when full of beet and extraction water. The diffuser is a large horizontal or vertical agitated tank in which the beets slices slowly work their way from one end to the other and the water is moved in the opposite direction. This is called counter-current flow and as the water goes it becomes a stronger and stronger sugar solution usually called juice. Of course it also collects a lot of other chemicals from the flesh of the sugar beet.

They literally pour hot water over beets with a giant strainer. That's it.

If you think those impurities are material to how your body processes the sugar or anything at all you're kidding yourself.

The reason they use chalk or limestone to remove impurities is to make it white. It doesn't significantly affect how your body processes it.

I'm over this. If you are so narrowminded and cannot understand how similar refined sugar, and sugar extracted from a carrot or beet are, it's no longer worth my time.

Again READ YOUR POST. The juice, not refined sugar, causes your blood sugar to spike. This is because you removed the non-digestable fiber and mass. So your body has instant access to absorb the sugars. The juice has tons of impurities, yet it causes a large blood sugar spike.

What is important is the fiber and mass of the veggie, you are getting rid of this by cooking it down.

1 carrot has 3 grams of sugar, 1tsp of sugar has 4 grams. So about a carrot and a quarter. This was in my first post.
