Every time the thread about the "european" cheese slicer is posted I try to post about mandolines. I have an adjustable one that I use frequently to make potatoes au gratin, slice veggies for my kids' dinner, or slice cheese, especially cheese of odd shapes or hardness that make using a knife or shredder/normal slicer difficult.

They're pretty useful and I don't know of or see a lot of people using them.

Guys I need some honest advice. The garlic press get a lot of hate but I'm thinking of getting one. I use alot of garlic and usually I just chop it up with a knife but it has started to annoy me more and more. Say I use 5 cloves and these little fuckers are not that flat and nice they sometimes are. If I want it finely chopped it takes forever. Crush it with a knife just doesn't work the way I want. Most times I just do it quick and get pieces I think is too big. I don't like the microplane because it's too messy, it's everywhere and my skin starts to itch. I still need to do it for some stuff I make though. Garlic pressed being hard too clean is a meme. You just flip out that skin thing with whatever and rinse with water. Anyway, I heard it becomes more bitter when you use a press and you get the best taste if you grate it. How much difference is there really?

Not entirely wrong, but also grossly simplified.
Embedded archives containing all sorts of things (cheese, vira, etc.) was a thing, so ~10 years ago mootles set 4chan to autostrip all embedded files (exif, audiostreams, archives) that weren't relevant to the board an image was posted on. This is why iToddlers will often post sideways pics. They don't actually realign their photos, they just rotate them, which is stored in the exif that gets stripped when they post.
/p/ still has exifs because they're relevant to the board and the 2 dedicated videoboards still has sound.

Autostripping both gets rid of potentially unpleasant surprises, but it also saves a shitton of bandwidth. Mootles once said in a blogpost about 4chan optimization that shaving something as insignificant as 5 bits (not bytes, bits) off a post translated into 10 TB saved bandwidth/month. That was back when the site had ~20 mil unique users/month.

>>15660902
Because this is an imageboard, not a videoboard. /gif/ and /wsg/ are videospecific boards, they support sound.

What's wrong with a garlic press? I have one and use it all the time, it's really convenient. There are a few times where I think "maybe it's not so bad to just mince it" but I always waste more time doing that than simply wiping off the press. This. Talk to any older firefighter and they'll state never ever should you oven be turned on if you aren't home. Not being in the same room is what some of them will tell no on.
Plus you can have one of those family members that park the greasy cast iron full of bacon grease in there to cool, or to use a burner without washing it. Then you turn on the oven, and that stuff hits a flash point. A nonstick parked in there will create gobs of toxic fumes, enough to kill your pets, from parrots to cats, buhbye, in rapid short order heating of a nonstick when you aren't home.

The shape is different, Kolkata these two. They're often swoops or tiny shovels, not a shallow bowl oval like a normal spoon. It's isn't for holding liquid, it only scoops up ice cream.
You can use a soup spoon for ice cream. You can't really use an ice cream spoon for soup, it's more purpose built. It kind of cuts through it.

Mandolines are the best cutting appliance you can have in a kitchen but fuck it's impossible to find one that isn't a flimsy shit. They're always made out of the worst plastic that just snaps in half from any force.

The benriner mandolines are solid even if made out of plastic. The blades can be unscrewed for easy sharpening.
They can and will deform if you chuck them in a super hot washing machine 3 times a day though

We aren't. Most Westerners annoy the hell out of Japanese people because they half-ass Japanese culture but insist there's some bond. It's no different from the dorky kid who tries to hang out with cool kids but only frustrates them.
You can argue it's a weeb site, but it's not Japanese.
