15838705 No.15838705 [Reply] [Original]

As of 2018 the UL has set a new requirment that all electric coin burners be fitted with thermal limiters which prevent coils from evenly heating. Only half of any burner can get to red hot.

This means that the element is incapable of boiling water without a lid, and makes it very difficult to sear anything. Stir fry is also very difficult.

If you dont use a heavy bottom pot, it also causes everything to cook unevenly between the inner and outer ring.

I fucking hate this change. I live in an apartment with one of these. It takes 25 minutes to boil water

Fuck you California

If you're really that fed up with safety stoves or w.e, then you can probably cut a deal with your landlord to swap in a better stove. I did this with my landlord, mind you I don't live in a shitty 20 story concrete box. But I chose one he approved and I installed in. He might even buy it off me when I move.

Gas is fine as long as you have an exterior tank and are not plugged into a distribution network. All the big gas explosions occur because the supplier's pumping equipment failed and created excess pressure which literally broke the valves and caused leaks in homes. That can't happen with an exterior tank, except during filling, of course...
