It's my day off and I'm drinking a beer with lunch then going to have a Negroni. My friend will be around in an hour and we are going for pints.

My rules:
>it's not a sprint, it's a marathon
>stay hydrated
>beware the spirits
>don't forget to eat

What are you're best day drinking stories? And what advise to you have for the young blood?

I was up at 7am, cycled 10km to the beach, went for a swim, and cycled back. I'm pumped!

Here is my public spirits section...
I also have yellow spot whiskey, lagavulin 16 scotch, some cheap vodka and brandy, Pimm's, St. Germain, and some other cocktail stuff in the cupboard.

I don't drink much, but I cracked one of these bad boys open when cleaning my apartment. Doing it buzzed was way better.
Probably a good thing I don't drink much.

Those my friend are Strong Zero, a canned cocktail with shochu. They are very fruity, easy to drink, and 9%. Very easy to get fucked up on.

I am intrigued... Says here they should only cost 130 Yen so you got ripped off?

Need to find out where I can get them in Ireland, be interested in trying them.

You living in Japan then?

I have a 12 pack of Yuenglings in my fridge but I just made a lot of money on stocks so I think I will buy a nice bottle of whisky to celebrate. What should I go for bros? Something in the $50-100 range.

I'm living in Ireland and my go to is either Red Breast 12 (see >>16106892) which smells like Christmas (seriously) and tastes amazing, or Yellow Spot.
I'd imagine you could get some good bourbons or Rye whiskey in the states but I don't know much about them.

Yeah same. Graduated and joined the workforce, now everyday I just want to get home, maybe exercise, eat, then go to sleep. Tolerance has gone to shit, no time or energy to drink except on the weekends, and even then I probably won't unless I'm with someone.
At least by not being an alcoholic anyone I have way more money for other stuff

I love Red Breast. Yellow Spot sound promising, I'll see if my store has that. I do love bourbon but my last expensive bottle was the Old Forester 1910, which is one of my favorites, so I want to switch it up with my next "pricier" bottle instead of another bourbon I'd probably like less than OF.

I find the Red Breast 12 whiskey good because it's reasonably priced and I think it tastes better then the 15 and 21 YO - both of which I feel are too "salty" (my tastes).

The yellow spot is great, very smooth, good mouth-feel and warm, sweet, malty tasting notes. The green spot is cheaper and good, but it doesn't have the same feel... it feels like it's lacking volume. Red spot is over-priced for what it is IMO.

If you're looking for peaty whiskey (>>16106984) Lagavulin 16 is the best.

Limit your drinking days to once or twice a week and only binge every once in a while. Eat a balanced diet, on days you plan to drink later on avoid foods with carbs and sugary foods; more vegetables so you’re not destroying yourself with the alcohol’s calories. Abstain for a month or so every once in a while. Vodka/gin are the best bang for your buck when avoiding calories.

>> No.16107002

>>16106998
I also speak on the limited drinking part because having a lower tolerance stretches out your wallet longer and you’ll be less likely to encounter alcoholism.

>> No.16107007

>>16106998
Based. I've stopped drinking during the week (this being the exception because I'm off) and I've been laying off the beers, replacing them with Vodka or Gin.
1 beer = 180/220 calories
1 gin and soda = 60/80 calories
multiply that over 10 drinks (2,000 vs. 800) and you understand why beer drinkers are fat.

These were limited edition and also on clearance, so I didn't pay sticker price. I lived in Japan for several years, but alas I'm not there anymore.
>>16106957
It's certainly possible but I haven't seen them thus far.

>1 beer = 180/220 calories
This is if you drink high alcohol hop bombs or something. A regular stout, or even a lager, is generally 125 calories.
But of course, if you want to drink as clean as possible, liqour is the way to go. Whenever I binge I go with hard seltzers (a guilty pleasure) or vodka sodas.

With that said, drinking every day is perfectly reasonable and safe. 1-2 drinks a day, say, two Guinesses, will only be like 225 calories. Most people can afford to squeeze that in without runing over their "daily maintenance" calorie wise.

>> No.16107046

>>16106856
I don't drink beer at all when I day drink, liquor only, but I drink it neat, and very slowly. I'll make a glass of whiskey (or now that it's summer, tequila) last for two hours. I can easily put away the whole bottle like this, by the end of the night, and be right in the pocket, right at the edge of buzzed and drunk, the whole time.

>> No.16107056

Guinness is roughly 166 calories per pint and Guinness is (surprisingly) one of the lowest calorie beers out there. Most larger are around 220 calories per pint.

are you talking 375 cans/glasses or 500ml pints?

12oz cans, not glasses. I mean just someone buying a 6 pack of normal cans, not pounders. Pints are a bit different.

I see, I'm working off pints (16oz) which is what we'd drink here.
Still, much of a muteness, just different ratios.
