/DEENZ/ General

For sardines, herring, anchovies, and any other canned fatty fish.

Just had two tins of this Dijon mustard flavor for breakfast for the first time ever, and I can safely say this is my favorite variety of deenz, and honestly one of my favorite flavor combinations of any kind of food. Love fatty fish, love good mustard, put em together and holy shit it's delicious.

is it a breakfast food or lunch?

That's the beauty, there's a million ways to do it. They work for all meals of the day.

Personally, I'm happy to just eat them right from the can, especially the ones that already have a strong flavor in the packaging. But like you said, spread over toast or crackers is also a great way to do it. Mixed with vegetables like tomatoes, onions, olives, is also good (and you can often find sardine salad with pre-mixed veggies, like Provencal.)

One good recipe is 'Fisherman's Eggs.' Heat an oven to about 400 degrees. You line a ramekin with some cooking oil, then mix in some sardines (really any kind of fish works), garlic, onion as you like. Put those into the ramekin and bake for about ten minutes. Take it back out, then crack a few eggs over the top of the mixture, and cook for about 10-15 more minutes. Just keep an eye on the eggs to see when they're cooked to your preferred doneness. Real easy recipe to make, fantastic macros, and delicious too.

Fisherman's eggs is the best recipe for beginners.
That's how I eat sardines for the best part of 2020 and I learned to love them easily.

Now I just eat them straight from the can with salty crackers and mustard, I can't believe there was a time when that combination was something that I couldn't digest.

Morrocan ones are middle-of-the-road. They're decent as long as you get olive oil, not as good as European ones, but better than bad ones like Chicken of the Sea. Personally I buy Sultan brand sometimes.

Probably good. Ultimately, you just want to know what seas the fish were sources from, and generally I understand the Mediterranean to be a good and clean source of fish. I'm told that Baltic fish, on the other hand, tend to be more exposed to pollution.

Checked, here's a recipe I just tried out the other day. I mash up some red onion, garlic, salt, spring onion and oil from the sardines in a pestle and mortar, then add that to my deenz that are sizzling away in a pan in the oil it comes in. Cook until fragrant, then slap it on some nice golden brown toast. One of the best knock up lunches I've ever made for next to nothing price-wise.

Well, maybe it was wrong to disparage the brand, all I know is:
1) Their tuna is the worst, dry catfood
2) I tried 1 tin of deenz and they were fishy and had a lot of fin/tail and were very small deenz
3) I tried that tin because it was all my grocery store had

However.... Chicken of the Sea has like dozens of different kinds of deenz though (pic related) so it's entirely possible some of them are good. I don't consider them a "good brand" though because they put out a lot of bad stuff.

Why do you kooks continue to buy the one layer sardines? Less fish for the same amount of $ as a two layer, sometimes the one layer's are even more expensive. If you really want an olive or mustard with your sardines, buy the product separately. This post is brought to you by tiny tots gang.

ugh, so I finally took the /deenz/ pill and got a few tins when I was at the grocery store today. I eat a lot of fish because of their protein content and I like the idea of eating something lower on the foodchain because of the mercury aspect. Brunzdeenz are pretty based. They’re caught in the maritimes, and generally solid quality. Not quite as good as KO but they’ll get you 85% of the way there for a fraction of the price. Most of them are packed in soi oil, which isn’t really an issue but the internet will claim it’ll make you into a tranny. I approve of brunzdeenz

Definitely a good start! They are some of the better water-packed deenz I've tried personally. Just so you know, deenz in water tend to carry a more strongly fishy odor, so just be aware of that when you open a can for your first time. If you're not expecting it, it can be a little off-putting the first time you try them

Also, brunz sells olive oil premium deenz, they're just harder to find! Keep an eye out for them if you wanna try the oily boys without turning into a woman

Dunno about deenz but if you want something nice with canned tuna just boil some rice and while that's happening boil diced potatoes till they're half done, fry them the rest of the way with some onion and whatever spices you like, then add tuna, a bit of white wine to deglaze, then throw in your cooked rice and a can of tomato paste, mix it together and serve.

I use sundried tomato and basil tuna.
