Married / Relationship anons:

Who is the better cook? You or the significant other?

I'm the best cook. My wife tries, but isn't the best. Just lazy.

Same here. My girlfriend can cook mediocre sloppa and refuses to go to the next level out of laziness.

Your GF probably cooks like my wife, I don't blame you. Let me give you some personal insight on the matter.

I've been with my wife for 10 years now. We met in high school, and I got her pregnant.
She is and always has been a lazy person and a shit cook. I wouldn't even mind eating shit food if she at least made it on time. But she rarely did.

We'd get into screaming arguments constantly about how lazy and worthless she was. I felt like an asshole for it, but goddamn she was a real piece of work. The only reason I dealt with all this was for the kids, and also because the sex is great.

But one night, I got fed up. Not only did she get drunk, neglect the kids, and made me top Ramen for dinner, but she decided to give me attitude too. She was being real fucking bitchy. So I told my grandparents to keep an eye on the kids and told my wife we were going to go out and have dinner together. I drove maybe 3 blocks to a quiet area (we live in Arizona, it's not hard to find a quiet field) and I got out of the car, went around like I was going to open her door for her and let her out, and I just beat the shit out of her while she was still seat belted. After a few punches, I asked her if she wanted to go back to her parents. She started screaming and yelling and said yes, so I beat the shit out of her again. Then I asked her what she wanted to do. She finally got smart and said she wanted to go home. So I took her home and dared her to start trouble. I even handed her my cellphone and dialed her mom's number on the drive home. I made her talk to her mom, while daring her to fucking say something.

Before that incident, I had never laid a hand on her. But I had always threatened it. I told her "one of these days, if you don't straighten up, I'm going to lay hands on you."

All my meals have been on time, and she just recently tried to make a meatloaf. It was mediocre, but I was just thrilled that she tried.

Do with this information what you will.

I am a better cook than my wife. Both of my parents enjoy cooking and are good enough home cooks, while her mom was a really apathetic cook (and her dad never cooked), so I had better teachers to start with. I also have more experience cooking and am more willing to figure out new techniques.

We mostly cook together, though, and it's very nice having someone to split up tasks with. It makes it a lot easier to try more involved meals.

According to my husband, I am the better cook because I like learning about new dishes or techniques. And when something doesn't turn out how I imagine it, I do research to figure out what I messed up or could tweak the recipe until I get the dish to be the way I want it to be. I also seek criticism even on some of my signature dishes because I'm always looking for ways to be better. He also says I'm more efficient in the kitchen when it comes to making an entry and sides and cleaning up as I go.

However, I would say we're both equally good cooks. There's a few dishes that he's extremely good at, and he does like to learn along side me when I say I want to try something new. I just cook more often because it's something I like to do.

My wife and I are pretty equal/have complimentary strengths/weaknesses.
She sticks to recipes with her small bits of flare, does a better job at pasta dishes and other comforting foods. Sometimes fish too. Also she bakes way better than me.
But I consider myself to better at experimenting, anything stew/soup/braising/etc since I tend to have more patience and plan things out more. I also think I'm better at saving a dish if things start to go south where as she will just freakout and create some abomination. Also the poor girl doesn't understand how to salt/season properly but eh.
All in all I probably am the better cook but I've just always done it more so it's a bit of unfair call

Similar situation at my house. My wife's food is consistently good, but she tries virtually nothing new. I am much more willing to try a dish that neither of us have ever made or even tasted before because it sounds good. A little different form you guys, though is that if something is an abomination, it's more than likely something I fucked up. Baking there's literally no comparison, some of the things she makes could literally be sold for money, and anything over smores or boxed cornbread is over my head.

I cook about 90% of the meals for dinner. She's very good at traditional Puerto Rican food so when she does cook dinner, she makes PR food. She cooks for the kids for breakfast/lunch but most of that is quick/easy stuff because of my daughter's dietary restrictions. The main thing that she runs into when she cooks is temperature control.

I bake and cook everything else. She has fully relinquished the kitchen as "My Domain" and is happy to eat the food I make. I am intensely critical of the food I make but she always loves it. She used to be a better baker than me but I caught up and surpassed her super quickly. I am intensely fortunate though as I very rarely have to do the dishes.

I'm glad that she embraces my cooking hobby and takes care of the kids while I work upstairs. Its a goddamn good life.

My mother is also a culinary arts instructor, and her family owned a restaurant in Germany for like 200 years. So I really have no excuse to be as lame at cooking as I am. I can only do easy things like spaghetti, egg fried rice, or simple soups.

Through college and even now (I have my own place but I'm not very far from my parents) she packs me shit tons of leftovers to take with me when I visit. So there was never much incentive to learn. But I bought/borrowed some cooking stuff and I'm gonna start trying to make my own stuff here in a bit. I'm gonna make a Bavarian pork stew recipe my mom has from the old restaurant that is slightly more complicated than what I usually make but is still pretty easy.

confidence is the reason you will die alone if you don't man up and start shooting your shot. The hard part is knowing you will get rejected most of the time but trying anyway. If you can overcome this you will be fine. Its like applying for jobs. Just understand this will happen and learn from your failures of hitting on women and eventually you will be fine. Drunk fat girls are the easiest. Just get your dick wet for a while and you will grow slowly but surely into a genuine casanova.

I would attempt to strike up conversations at the grocery store, bars, wherever you are where there are single girls. Be confident but not cocky. Ask them about shit they don't care about. Women love talking about themselves. All they care about when you talk about shit is like if you have money and hobbies and can give them security and if you exercise that helps. But don't talk about a show you like or try to seem intellectual they could give 2 fucks less.
