Explore your local liquor stores
I live in New England, we're not known for our bourbons. I recently moved to a new town 30 mins from my old home. First liquor store I go to, I see a locally-produced bourbon from the next county over, so I buy it, gotta support local right. ~30 dollars for the 750. Today, I went to a different liquor store, see the same product, it's 48 fucking dollars.
By the way, this bourbon tasted like fucking dirt, convinced me that Evan Williams really is a good product.
Moral of the story, know your region, know your store, know your spirits. Some places are just gonna have a better deal with their suppliers even within a 5 mile radius. I'd wager there is a good whiskey you can get a very good deal on within your locality, you just have to look.
