Didn't knew they were starving on the Faroe Islands. Should be enough meat for whale burger for months.

Whale is the only meat I’ve ever tried which I simply don’t like.
I’ve tried it as sashimi, yakiniku, sukiyaki, tempura, and in soup.
Wife is Japanese. She doesn’t like it either. Her mom loves it though.

I know people who understand game and fish management and why some populations are hunted or fished to control numbers but will lose their shit about whale hunting.
Don't know the situation in Japland and other places but in the case of the Faroe Islands it's a carefully controlled and monitored tradition.
Beyond that, the argument devolves into, "yeah but it's yucky" and I don't think that's a conversation worth having at that point.

You seem somewhat retarded, so let me please explain. Of course people have killed animal throughout history ( in this case fish, whales) for food and survival.
But in case you missed it, this is 2021, we can do better. No one (NOONE) on the Faroe Island would suffer if they stopped killing those whales.
A Michelin reasurant means there is wealth, both from locals and tourists.

>> No.16797703

>>16797690
So the fishermen, directly impacted by the whale population, wouldn't suffer financially at all by a whale population boom?
There is wealth in the Faroe Islands because fishing is 90% of their export market, anon.

>> No.16797707

>>16797607
The Faroe islands is NOT a "wealthy country". Those people survive on fish, whales, and birds, all gathered from the sea. They are a sovereign nation that has the right to do what the fuck they want to with their waters, including harvesting whales.

Fuck off with your bigotry.

Anon, the whales eat the fish.
You're asking them to not only eliminate food provided by the whales, but also let that deficit literally eat up their other food source
I understand your stance but you're not approaching this realistically.
Thankfully they have a Michelin restaurant so they can all eat there after they lose their jobs.

When did Faroe start to make serious money? Heavy fishing boats and tourism.
I'm not asking to eliminate fishing, again
Not killing a few whales wouldn't harm sales, I'm sure.
But hey you do you

>> No.16797818

>>16797776
They don't make serious money and you're ignoring my point that killing the whales protects the population of their fisheries.
Population control is one of the most basic tenets of conservation.

To put it simply, less whales, more fish.
So not killing those whales WOULD harm sales.
I'm not going to fault you because I don't think you're coming to this with any sort of malice.
However, you have a fundamental lack of understanding in nearly every aspect of the Faroese supply chain.

>> No.16797891

>>16797835
I'm not saying that. They have done better through more responsible financial management but that initial wealth still has to come from industry.
I understand that the ocean is full of fish, but treating the ocean as a homogeneous fishery isn't realistic.
The industry is localized because you can't send Faroese fishing vessels thousands and thousands of miles out to fish.
The whales are local to the fishery that provides the fish they can catch.
Say they kill 700 pilot whales in a year.
An adult pilot whale eats around 30 pounds of fish a day.
That's about 7.6 million pounds of fish taken by whales in a single year without Grindadráp to supplement the loss on top of that.
Ultimately we can sit here and go back and forth about it, but it is still a sovereign nation and neither I, nor you, can change that.

>>16797849
>According to Japanese numbers they've returned to preendangerment levels.
There are many endangered whale species, but they aren't being hunted. The ones being hunted are healthy populations.
