In pittsburgh theres this big italian place in the market area where you can bring in your own container and fill up w olive oil from some barrels they buy. Pretty cheap and good quality. If you don't live there idk sucks for you.

California olive oil seems the best option then? also I heard Mafia makes a fair chunk of money from olive oil, just as cartels make money off avocado, but they pretty diversified. Recently I heard Mafia makes a lot of money off of fake social media accounts and then sells it to foreign sovereignties

>artificial olive oil
Most of the time they just dilute the higher quality olive oil with lower quality olive oil and say it's still extra virgin. It's just saying that lower quality olive oil is better than it really is and charging more, not diluting it with canola oil or something.

>>16860158
You can look up brands that failed to meet the standards for extra virgin, or which ones were tested and pass. Some bottles might have labels saying that they passed a third party test too. You can't really figure that out on your own as it's a little complicated to do.

>> No.16862303

>>16859539
Probably just means bland. Olive oil can't be watery since it's all fat. The Costco brand of olive oil is actually real extra virgin olive oil, but it's a blend and they probably use some oil that is still extra virgin but not super high quality to reduce the cost. Costco has some olive oil from California that is pretty decent though.

Read a consumer report a few years back and Kirkland organic is one of the few legit extra virgin olive oil out there, and the cheapest I'm willing to get. Most others are cut with sunflower oil or soybean oil and shit.

Get this from Trader Joe's. They used to have an even better one but it's been discontinued. This one is still pretty great.

>> No.16862824

olive oil is a fresh product so you want to look for stuff that was pressed and bottled not long ago. go to a grocery store and start looking at dates on bottles. New oils start showing up in late November.

Look for terms like cold pressed, extra virgin and unfiltered. Look for olive oil that was processed where the olives were grown, legally you can grow one place and package in another

Trader Joe's will have nouvo or Novello labeled around Christmas that is good and inexpensive... Domestic oil can be great but usually demands a high price if it is.

NO, NOT THAT ONE. God damn it, the "destinations" version is the same shitty international olive oil as every other brand, just with the california logo on it. You want the version that specifically does not have Destinations on the label, because that means it's exclusively the high quality Californian-grown olive oil.

Interesting because there are multiple "destinations" varieties that taste wildly different from each other. Stop giving your opinions on things you've never experienced you massive fucking retard.

What are you fucking talking about? Read the label dipshit, it blatantly tells you the Destination version is a blend of international olive oil, aka all the shit that the Italian mafia is already diluting and fucking up all across Europe in Italy, Spain, Turkey etc. Just because they still sell different levels of robustness doesn't mean it's not the same shitty olive oil. God you're so fucking stupid, you should just use vegetable oil since clearly you can't tell the difference. Buy the version of California olive oil that doesn't have the Destinations added to it, because otherwise you're just a brainless consumer overpaying for the same shit olive oil. It's honestly fucking hilarious how arrogant you are about not knowing a damn thing.
