well friend, you may not know this, but premium, non-inhaled tobacco carries with it little to no risk for those who do not over-indulge. There are legitimate studies done on this topic, but there is still more to learn as research into high-quality non-inhalent tobacco is not nearly as promoted or funded as cigarette mortality research is. There is even some evidence, for example a study in Denmark, that the relaxing effects of semi-regular to regular pipe smoking can actually decrease mortality in a given population due to due to reduced stress. Regardless, we are not ignorant, and are fully aware of the possible side effects of this hobby.

next step is to go to your local tobacco shop, preferably one with a slightly overweight salesman who is a psuedo expert who keeps going off about "notes of buttered rum". talk to this guy and he will give you a good starter tobacco based on what you liked from cigars and probably recommend a corn cob.

also, /canada/ here, i ordered pic related from sweden.

took around 3 weeks to arrive. customs opened the package ans charged me 3x times the price (so for 10$ of snuss : 10$+20$ shipping + 20$duty = 50$ for two packs.

i like it but it makes my stomach hurt, so i'll just stick to cigarettes

btw i was on a 50+ nicotine gum a day habit and it really fucked me up, dont do it.

Two cans? Suck me sideways. I buy General Mint at gas stations for $4.50/can. I assume Canada prices are higher than here in the US, though. I've ordered other varieties from Sweden a couple times. Thats very subjective. Go for something medium bodied. Dont let them sell you on a mild. Stick to the robusto/toro size. Most of the 6/60+ donkey dicks smoke like shit and taste like shit. Lonsdales/Lanceros are great, but inexperienced smokers have trouble keeping it in the sweet spot and tent to over smoke them.
Drew Estate Undercrown Maduro has a nice meaty/savory and spicy taste.
Arturo Fuente Chateau Sungrown has a citrusy, sweet, baking spices flavor.
Padron 3000 Natural has a sweet creamy, cocoa and coffee flavor. The maduro version is good as well.
These 3 should be pretty common and have good construction and a fair price point.
Tell the tobacconist you are looking for something medium bodied and the flavor profile that interests you. Maduros are usually blended to be spicy, earthy peppery with a slight sweetness. Habanos have a sweet, savory and creamy taste with a spicy finish. Connecticuts are usually sweat, creamy, nutty tobacco, but have a very mild flavor and hard for new smokers to get the flavors out of it.

I do not recommend the Tabak Dulce, ACID, or Ambrosia line at all except for the Candela ACID if you want the experience of smoking green tea.

My favorite all time cigar however is Espinoza Warzones.

Not universal advice but answers your question. Don't overthink it. There's junk, not junk, and luxury/style/taste. If you avoid plain rotten junk it doesnt matter.
Dr. Grabow took a fucking dive. 15 years ago they were so good it didnt even make sense to buy a "nice" pipe, what difference did it make. I bought 4 the past 2 years and theyre all poorly made. Loose, off center, blemished, voids, shank cracks easily. I've got one, the shank is drilled so poorly it actually loops around to being impressive. Its like double counter bored, I cant even explain it.
-so, avoid Grabow, its a real shame but dont waste your time anymore.
Crown is pretty junky, not worth it, avoid
Get a straight pipe. The curve does the opposite of what you want it to. Straight pipes smoke drier. If you wane a curve ignore my advice because the entire point is to make yourself happy, but if you know nothing start with a straight so you don't gurgle spit like a saxophone.
Honestly just pay the $110x2 and get two above average pipes. If you can't afford about $300 on a luxury hobby you're not going to enjoy smoking because you'll be thinking about your power bill while you puff. Just pony up and grab what you have your eye on, you know you have something in mind and you know you want to.

None of these are sexy sizes-they’re all pretty affordable, so they don’t make the retailers as much money-but what they are excellent at is giving the smoker the best balance of flavorful wrapper with mild filler tobaccos. And their size is not so huge that you are smoking them all day, or can’t stand up afterwards from the nicotine knocking you on your ass.

Leave the huge sizes for the gangstas, wannabes, and show-offs. When you want to know what the fuss of a cigar is about, those are the sizes to look for.

Maybe a silly question, maybe not.
I'm kind of a fresh smoker. I don't even really consider myself one because realistically, I smoke maybe once a year, but I bought a pack of American Spirits Black (long story).
I've been chipping away at it for the last two weeks, and sometimes I just feel at capacity for the day.
I smoked 6 cigs over the course of the day, and the idea of smoking another one right now is just making me feel sick. I'm guessing it's just a inexperienced person getting their shit kicked in, but I am curious if even more regular smokers experience this.

Don’t force yourself to smoke more if you don’t want to. That’s how you get addicted, because most chainsmokers only do it socially on breaks at their jobs where they smoke with other people and talk about the Packers game or some shit, and then they get the nicotine hit as well as the feeling of being “cool” and “accepted.” Smoking doesn’t make you cool but you can make smoking cool by not forcing yourself to like something if you don’t like it. Also cigarettes in general are literal floor sweeping acrid ass tobacco that is only there to give you relief until your next cigarette. Two cigs a day is enough to make me feel like shit, let alone six. Cigars and pipes are meant to be cheeked rather than inhaled, because you’re trying to smoke it for the flavor of the tobacco rather than getting a shitty nicotine buzz. Even a Dutch Master or Swisher will always taste better than cigarettes.

It will ruin more of the objective qualities of a good cigar much faster if you burn it partially then let it settle than it just getting old in its packaging. Even in bad ones it is remarkably noticeable. My point in other posts was to suggest that if a cigar should be enjoyed at all, it should be done with the intention that it is completed. Call me an autist, and I’ll accept that since this is truly an interesting hobby for me, but go ahead and smoke anything from Walgreens Dutch Masters to some decent Romeo y Julietas and tell me that the taste will be the same if you smoked it straight through to nub or if you snuffed it and then revisited it.

>That smoke and light water vapor that got too cold while your cigar was burning out or worse snuffed out will settle inside the rest of the unburnt cigar and it will taste bad.
You really should understand how cigars work before speaking. You're heating up tobacco leave to release oils. Those oils collect on the unburnt tobacco. That accumulation of oils causes flavors to change over the course of the cigar. What happens when you snuff your cigar out? Those collected oils now start oxidizing and going rancid. Further more, those oils have trapped a shitload of burnt particulate carbon. Thats what you're going to taste. Cutting off your ash is not going to clean your remaining tobacco.

I usually smoke American Spirits but every once in a while I'll get Dunhills or Nat Sherman's. I do pipes and cigars every now and then. I enjoy op's pic related, it was the first pipe tobacco I've ever bought along with Seattle Pipe Club's Plumb Pudding. With cigars I smoke a bit of everything except the real cheap garbage. Punch cigars are quite nice for their price . I also like Romeo y Julieta, Montecristo. Acid, and CAO. I am actually about to make some of my own cigars in the neat future, my wife knows a few people who live in the DR that can send us some very good stuff for a great price so I figured I might as well try my hand at making some primo hand rolled cigars. I love drinking coffee and/or liquor with tobacco. It's usually cigarettes with coffee but sometimes I'll smoke a smallish stick with it. Liquor & tobacco is probably my favorite combination. With cigars I really enjoy a good cognac or brandy, I like smoking a pipe with bourbon & irish whiskey, cigarettes work great with all of them. The only tobacco products I don't really mess with are chew, snus, or dip. I still remember when I had to go to smoke shops to find American Spirits, it was back when I bought these amazing flavored cigarettes from Belgium called Sweet Dreams. Cherry was my favorite, I got a few of my friends hooked on those things and then a little bit afterwards they outlawed flavored cigarettes in the states. I was pretty upset at first but after a while I started seeing AS everywhere. Smokers who weren't around back then have it pretty good because you can find them everywhere now but they missed out on some pretty sweet deals. They would mail free cartons to anyone over 21 that wanted to try them out and they weren't that cheap back then either. Cigarettes are made with low-quality baccy because they're meant to be fully inhaled over short periods with minimal tasting.
Pipe tobacco is generally high-quality, and its smoke is potent enough that you'll probably get a serious head-rush if you just suck it back like a cigarette. You seem to have a high nicotine sensitivity, so I'd recommend just puffing pipe tobacco without inhaling.

Trying to get cigar "enjoyment" down. Promotions at work put me in a situation where I now end up having to hobnob with an old boy's club that are pretty into cigars socially (while on the clock).

I bought a few random samplers of brands and tried to learn how to enjoy a cigar. I got a 12 pack of random Oliva cigars- the ones I remember were a Cameroon nub, serie g, serie o, "wrath" Maduro and robusto, and some others were there too but I can't recall their names.

I tried to allot an hour to each, which was likely too short for many of them. I've never smoked before in my life, and I managed to avoid mistakes like smoke inhalation or letting the cigar unwrap.

Only one of them struck me as "fun", one of the serie Gs. I think those are on the milder side of medium? I don't think any of the others I tried graded as very bold, but it was not the boldest or mildest, it just seemed to "click" and I liked it. Most of the others I may as well have just been puffing smoke for an hour. I didn't taste or feel anything. But that particular one was enjoyable and I'm not sure what made it that way.

I bought another sampler that has some of those serie Gs again, but also has their "premium" cigar, a V melanio. I don't know how much is marketing or what, I guess I'm looking forward to trying it, although it is considerably bolder.

I did buy a guillotine cutter. I had been using a cheap V cutter and it didn't seem to be enough for some of the cigars i tried, and once I continued to cut after getting a poor draw, ended up overdoing it, and gave myself a horrible headache.

I'm trying to figure it out, I guess. I'm not really a sit and relax type. I've tried to hang out in the backyard with my dog while smoking and throw a ball for him the whole time. He likes it at least. Whatever the magic was in that one cigar is something I would like to recapture though.
