If it’s good enough for monks to spend this holy day of reflection abstaining from all food, with only beer to slake their appetites, then I shall try the same. Of course the only beer I will drink will be brewed by monks in abbeys, Chimay, Westmalle, etc… as these beers find their charitable works.

I'll let you know. Their jam is good. I've been meaning to do this since last year but I was holding out for Westvleteren.

The monks drink the low ABV patersbier, not the strong stuff they make for sale.

It’s not piss drunk, I’m replacing my meals with beer. 3 beers over 12 hours.

It's REALLY good. Their white is very easy-drinking, and their Monks' Reserve is really rich, kind of like St. Bernardus ABT 12.

Chimay is absolute dogshit for me 2bh. I recommend Franziskaner Dunkel and Paulaner.

Not even the grande reserve? Blue label Chimay is pretty nice.

Based Corsendonk poster. The Christmas ale was damn good.

Only 3 beers? Do you think that won't be enough to sustain you through the day? Or will you be drinking particularly heavy Trappists?

I did it a few years ago and had Chimay Blue, White, and Red. Technically we’re allowed 2 small meals and a larger one, so I could make a basic broth or soup as an addition.

Do not dare call yourself a man of god unless you can down a bottle of Chartreuse in one sitting.

Hah! That's a good few beers to have in one day. Good luck with your beer-fast this year anon.

I encourage you to try the Grande Reserve, you might just like it. Franziskaner dunkel is beyond based. But Blue Moon? I'm surprised that's a favorite, it's fine but totally unremarkable as a beer.

There’s lots of monasteries out there. Find one close to you and see if they will let you live with them for a while. Most are happy to let people interested in monastic life live with them to see what the life is like and if they want to join the community. Orders like Trappists are very strict and reclusive (the don’t talk during meals), but they focus on living off the land and make products like beer jam and cheese to pay the bills and contribute to charity. Before I met my wife I was thinking of joining an order like the Trappists. It’s a trad life without the trad life.
