>> No.17894482

>>17894399
Flair+Nanofoamer owner here. Admittedly, the Nanofoamer is finicky as hell, but it's a lot cheaper than buying a Bellman. Your foam quality and thus latte art from a Nanofoamer will always be inferior to a steam wand, but at least you're not spending roughly extra 60 dollars for a pressurized vessel that only does one thing. The Nanofoamer could also at least be used for frothing other things like matcha.
Personally, I'd save up the money to buy a full-blown espresso machine instead of spending it on a Bellman. You could also go full cheap route and just froth with a french press for now.

I use a French press already, yeah. That "silky milky" Lance Hedrick video helped a lot to make tasty brews. I don't think I'll want to buy a full blown espresso machine in the future. The Flair is really convenient with how you can fold it away. Nanofoamer being finicky is concerning

Covfefe bros, I am falling out of love with espresso and in love with cold brew, especially nitro cold brew.

Is there any good resource that gives recommended machines at different price ranges like there is for espresso machines/grinders?

>> No.17910020

>>17909453
>Ingredients:
>Ground cafe du monde (or preferred coffee. Cheaper coffees require no cold brew hot bloom and can be directly cold brewed).
RATIO: ONE CUP COFFEE-4 CUPS WATER
>Star anise (~2 pods/1 teaspoon),
>Vanilla extract,
>Cloves (2-4 cloves to taste; you can always add more at the end but you can't take away!),
>Cinnamon (about 1/2 to 1 stick, or, 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon ground),
>Ginger (4 teaspoons),
>Nutmeg (1 teaspoon. Remember that nutmeg is sweet and you're adding sweetened milk, this recipe makes 4 servings!) to taste,
>1/4 cup coconut cream (NOT CREAM OF COCONUT, that is sweetened), 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk (total, so 1/16 cup or 1 tablespoon per drink, of each),

Cold brew, hot bloom your coffee: pour about 1.5 cups of hot water over the grounds, shove your spices and vanilla in while it's still hot, allow to bloom for 30 seconds, then pour over the rest of your water. Let steep in the fridge or at room temp--covered, obviously--overnight. Let those flavors get to know eachother and mingle. You can add your 1/2 cup coconut cream and 1/2 cup S.C. milk now, or 1/16 cup each, per drink, when you are serving it. I prefer now.

Take that bitch out, filter it through a fine meshed sieve. Drink it.

There arent really that many options for nitro at home.

From what I have seen, your options are iSi Nitro dispenser. Its basically a whipped cream dispenser. Or, you buy a barrel which typically come in 2-5L. You then get a stout serving head and N2 canisters.

Personally I have a 5L barrel. Its far too big to keep in the fridge, especially once the tap and gas holder are attached. I would need a separate fridge for it if I was going to keep it filled. As a result it doesnt really get used very much for coffee.

Ok cool. So yeah you're getting grinds up into the group head. You can do a few things:

1- Your machine probably comes with either a "blind basket" or a "cleaning disk" - the former replaces your normal basket, the latter sits inside it, but both will run the machine up to pressure without letting any water pass through. You can do this - usually called "backflushing" on a regular basis

2- You can buy a "puck screen" for an inflated amount of money - it's a fine mesh screen cut precisely the size of your portafilter, and it can do a couple of things - pretty much rid you of the problem you describe, or also potentially reduce channelling. I own one, I use it every day, I kinda think I'm a retard for spending thirty bucks on a wire mesh circle but I now clean/backflush my machine much less than I used to

3- You could also reduce your dose a little - you'll probably find that if you put in a gram or two less coffee, there'll be no, or less, contact between the puck and the group and it will greatly reduce how much stuff stays up there. You'll probably have to grind finer to maintain the same ratio at the same time, and you might find your puck will be wetter afterwards than it was before, but that's also something you can fuck around with.

never seen that, every colombian i see is medium or ultra dark
>medium roast guatemalan gesha
is that just a different spelling of geisha? because the geisha that i have had have been great, but the last time i had beans from Guatemala they were fine, they didnt really have enough of a distinct profile to set it apart from like colombian or costa rican, but perhaps i just got beans from a sub par farm.

Your technique is probably fine. You're getting symptoms of overextraction and underextraction because your grind size distribution is too wide. Get a better grinder.

I don't have experience with that grinder but it does look pretty decent. Are you brewing dark roast? That can also result in excessive fines (causing sludge) even at coarse grind settings.

was $48 (CAD) and it was one of the cheapest I could find on Amazon and in stores that was mostly stainless steel (finding one completely devoid of plastic is impossible unless you get a shitty sub-one-liter goose neck for $60 (gay))

That's just a device for boiling water. Manufacturing selling espresso will do hand wavey bullshit to justify why their plastic costs more than other plastic - because it does more advanced things (makes espresso).

Could be a few things:
Coffee : Water ratio is off
Lots of channeling
It's actually over extracted, and you're confused
You ground too coarse, but your grinder makes tons of fines

Probably more, but it's likely one of those

Kind of interesting given the research showing a more uniform grind distribution if you pre-grind very coarse before going finer...
