WTF is wrong with this seasons garlic?????? I go to whole foods, trader joes, small organic mart, big grocery stores and all of the fucking garlic is SHIT. either sprouting, bruised, molding, no spiciness/pungency, just all around weak and unfresh garlic. I live in maryland so its happening to me here. Is anyone else noticing that there is no fuckijg good garlic anymore or is it just my area!

>> No.18583661

I grew 300 bulbs of garlic and harvested earlier this year, so I've only been using the most amazing, pungent, and flavorful garlic for the past 6ish months. Feels good beyond imagination.

If the spring is too hot it causes the garlic to be ready too quickly, which means small bulbs that may be singlets instead of multi-clove bulbs. If the garlic is shit that means they're using last years harvest that has been stored and frozen for a long ass time.

>> No.18583824

there's randomly garlic at the farmers market
it is oddly much harder to peel (skin is ultra papery and thin) but the texture and flavor are otherwise better

Thanks for the tip! I hadn't thought to check farmers markets. There's one in Gaithersburg I been to a few times but don't remember if they sold garlic. I'll have to check. I will definite pay 2 even 4 dollars a bulb if its quality garlic. I've been stealing way more shit from my local grocery store to makeup for the garlic they ripped me off on

Not so much the lack of water as it was the relentless heat this growing season. The good news is that though the harvest is a lot smaller, the quality of the onions and garlic has been pretty good. The crappy stuff in stores is probably old stock making up for the smaller harvest, as someone already said.

Here in Norway I've been noticing quality problems with store-bought garlic for a while. There was one Spanish brand that was good for a while but that seems to have gotten pretty much flavorless in recent years.

Yes sir! I crush my garlic cloves before loading in my jar of raw honey. There's also supposed to be medicinal properties in raw honey. Just make sure you use raw honey since its more acidic and have pH tester strips to make sure the concoction is below 4.6 so you don't get botulism. You can also add some apple cider vinegar if the pH starts to creep up. And don't forget to burp the jar daily to release c02 and do this until the bubbling stops which will be a few weeks
