what would they stick to? I usually fry with a cast iron pan in like an inch of oil so it floats in the oil. I notice my fries end up pretty crispy but I figured I can improve that with technique.

Most decent normal sized toaster ovens have a convection setting, (sometimes called turbo) and many also have an "air fry" setting, which supposedly is the exact same thing as convection but the fan blows a little faster.

All air fryers I have seen have been made out of plastic, which I will never let hot plastic touch my food, fuck that. or have been extremely bulky heavy expensive machines that were a gimmick.

A good toaster oven is all you really need. The bigger ones are useless, they just cost way more and look really cool but the normal sized toaster ovens are cheaper, last longer, and cook the food better.

>what kind of hulking toaster oven do you have that is able to make a decent number of fries? I have a toaster oven and an air fryer but it's impossible to make fries or chicken strips for more than one person in a toaster oven

I just use a normal sized 1400 watt toaster oven, it's very small but it gets the job done. If you need to make a very large batch you could just use the convection setting on a normal built-in standard home oven if you have one. It all depends on your own situation and what you got on hand.

This is not advice. Do not try this at home.

hell of a lot easier
no pans to clean, no oil all over your stove top
presumably healthier, too

my only complaint is that while nominally my airfrier can fit 2kgs, anything over 1.5kg will lead to seriously uneven frying
really, 1kg is the max for perfectly uniform frying (with a couple rounds of shaking during the frying, ofc)

overall, im quite happy with it, despite the fact that i only really use it for fries, and despite my issues w.r.t. max amount it can fit
its easily enough feed 3 adults, which ain't half bad
at some point ill explore other recipes for it

That's exactly what it is, but I think the higher wind speeds are the point. Have only used an air frier and not a convection oven, but based on the physics the higher speed should result in faster heat transfer, and hence come closer to simulating frying.

This was my situation, basically.
I thought it was unessesary kit since we have a convection oven. Eventually we received one as an unwanted gift.

Turns out this thing has its uses. Totally different animal than the convection. Having a culinary background I had, admittedly, something of a bias against this kind of gadget. It has a myriad of uses so far. I used it last night, after a night of boozing, to make Aldi chicfillet knock offs. Done in 12 minutes.

Uses so far
> actually great baked potatos
> good steak fries
> good for a quick toasted sandwich
> literally the ultimate pizza reheating device
> super fast and good roasted veg
> decent wings fast/easy. But frying still better

I pounded out some chicken and made chicken parm. Not as good as fried.
