No it isn't, it is actually cheaper. Don't be difficult and lazy, that is the downfall of today's American youth. Get some self confidence, want to make better choices for yourself like eating better, and enjoy finding really delicious food that you can make for your self that is healthy.
A whole chicken costs about four dollars:
1 whole chicken (4-5 pounds)
1 large lemon
1 tsp mixed dried herbs
2 tsp olive oil
Preparation:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Remove giblets and set aside for gravy or stock if you wish. Rinse chicken with cold water and pat dry.
Place chicken breast side up on a rack in a roasting pan. Cut lemon in half. Place one half inside the cavity of the chicken. Tie the legs together with twine if you like (I usually don't bother).

Squeeze the juice from the remaining half lemon into a small bowl. Add herbs and olive oil and stir together. Brush the bird with lemon and herb mixture, then place chicken uncovered in preheated oven.

Roast for approximately 90 minutes, depending on weight of the bird, basting occasionally. Allow 20 minutes per pound plus an extra 20 minutes on top. When you cut into the bird the juices should run clear and the joints should be easy to move around.

HFCS is approximately 50/50 fructose/glucose

Table sugar is sucrose, which is precisely 50/50 fructose/glucose and is readily broken down into such.

Biochemically they're almost identical.

IIRC, fructose raises triglyceride levels more than glucose, but you are unlikely to encounter pure glucose in nature.

Sugar is sugar is sugar. It still makes you fat if you eat too much of it and destroys your adrenal system.

HFCS is incidentally a tell-tale sign of high processing and hence a paucity of micronutrients, but that's just a rule of thumb and replacing HFCS with sugar in a recipe (e.g. "Mexican" coke) shouldn't make it somehow less bad for you.

They taste different. The best way to show people this is to get three cans of coca cola. One manufactured in the US, one manufactured in Europe, and one manufactured in another country such as Australia. They all taste completely different, and the only different ingredient is the kind of sugar they use.
The beet sugar can usually has the least sickly sugariness, and you can taste the bitter carbonatedness. The cane one is a midway. The corn syrup based coke however, most people who were not used to the taste found sickly both in taste and smell, and found it hard to drink more than a sip.

University friends and I performed a blind taste test with over 20000 participants, and those are the results we got.
So, yes, I'd say there was a difference.
And for the record, I am not from Europe.

It really doesn't. Food prices are pretty fucking low in N. America. Just because fast food may appear cheaper doesn't mean you have to eat it.

That is just being a cheap son of a bitch. Most people can afford to spend an extra couple dollars buying their own ingredients and cooking a good meal.

It is laziness combined with being a cheap fast-food fag. It isn't like these people would starve if fast food didn't exist - they would learn to feed themselves on a budget. Like normal people on a strict budget do.

Actually, I am at home right now getting ready for a conference on the weekend... which is why I am taking some time to go on 4chan. I also get to make my own hours, so sometimes I work 6am-5pm, 12pm-8pm, whatever.

When I work at the lab I take maybe 20 minutes worth of breaks during the whole day. I don't go there to hang out, I go there to work... that is just my work ethic. I don't like breaking up the day when I have things to do.

The difference is that I enjoy what I do and understand the benefits of working hard and obtaining solid results. When I work hard, I see benefits. When someone working a menial job for a boss works hard, they mays see a few extra dollars or get a gold star or whatever.

Then again, that is another reason why education is worth pursuing - you increase the probability of working for yourself (or at least having more freedom), making more money, choosing your livelihood, making contributions that you believe in, etc.

This is the type of anti-education nonsense I don't understand. People say they want their children and the population to be educated, that it creates a better society, etc. Yet when faced with someone making sacrifices to further their education, they scream elitist or act like it is easy.

I paid for my undergraduate degree by working 14 hour days in the bush (10 on, 3 off), planting trees or surveying. I've "done my time" and worked harder than anybody at a retail or restaurant could understand. Ever had to frantically chop a landing pad for a chopper so that they could pick you up (or you would have to spend the night)? Ever worked alone and been charged by bears in areas so remote that only a satellite phone with terrible reception that worked half the time could save you if something wrong? It's not about shopping in season -- that's always a good idea, but it doesn't mean buying 10 lbs. of potatoes and then getting some bread and shitty Italian dressing to make pretentious bruschetta.

His menu fucking sucks. You can eat for less than $12. The point remains.

I take 3 litres of milk (or, coincidentally, 3 bags... I'm Canadian) and toss them in a big pot. On medium heat, bring the milk almost to a boil, where it just starts to bubble a little. Keep stirring the whole time, milk can burn easily.

When it is at that point, toss in a bunch of lemon juice (or vinegar, but I prefer lemon) and take the pot off of the element. I usually use the juice of a lemon... overkill, but it doesn't impact the flavour and I like to make sure I curdle everything. Stir in the juice for a minute and watch as the solids separate... it is cool.

Then, pour it through a strainer lined with a few layers of cheese cloth and pour cold water on it. You want to cool it down so it stops cooking. Tie up the cheese cloth and press it... I put it between 2 cutting boards and place 20 lbs of weight on it for an hour or so. I like it really firm, so I do it for as long as possible.

Then slice up into cubes and use. I sometimes give it a quick fry in ghee and then use it in the dish.

Just make sure you buy cheese cloth (it is cheap and, oddly enough, I sometimes find it in the cleaning aisle).

And make sure you don't burn the milk. It can take a while to bring it to the appropriate temp. slowly, but it is worth it.

I love the 10 seconds between tossing in the lemon juice and not seeing the curdling... I start to think "oh shit it wasn't hot enough!!! It isn't working!!!" and then the beautiful separation occurs.

Which, by the way, fail at times. Plus then, it's put into the hands of people of dubious intellect who cook it for you.
People in these "other countries" you speak of cook the food themselves, with less handling by other people, less traveling time, and therefore less chance of improper handling and contamination. Restaurant meals program

This program is designed to help households who do not have a place to store and cook food, or who may have a disability that makes preparing meals for themselves difficult. It began in 1978 when federal regulations gave states the option to allow elderly and disabled food stamp households to use food stamp coupons in authorized restaurants. In 1996, the program was expanded to include homeless food stamp households. [MPP §63-102(e)(2)(H); ACIN I-31-04]

Under the program, prepared foods at participating restaurants and grocery stores can be purchased with an EBT card. Participating restaurants must meet requirements placed on them by the county and must be authorized to process food stamp transactions as a restaurant. Restaurants are prohibited from charging a sales tax or meal tax on prepared foods purchased with food stamp benefits. [7 C.F.R. § 274.10.]

I work with a Jew, a jet black Jamaican dude, a houduran, an ecuadorian, a hipster, an old WASP alcoholic, a jazz bassist, and a half Mexican.

The racial jokes fly all day everyday. It's fucking hilarious. I love the dudes I work with. But that's not the same thing as hating people due to their race.

Saging cuz this isn't on topic

Regulations vary from state to state, even though it's a national program. For example, some states it's grocery stores only, others you can use your EBT at the god damn liquor store.

Well, in a country in which whites are the majority: yes, they largely are. Who is "racist" against whites in the united states? In what positions of power do they sit?

The fact that you're thinking about it in terms of inherency and not cultural relevance is probably solid evidence that you're a racist.

What does acknowledging that racism is inherently political, and that it is about power more than it is about personal prejudice, have to do with guilt? Racism is a means of oppression, not just someone's hateful opinion.

good god i hate that fucking site. i used to troll the fuck out of them until they got that bullshit where star commentators had to approve the noobs before their posts were visible to everyone. that system basically turned all of cocker media into a huge circle jerk where opinions that did not follow what the editors and majority liked were "devowled".

that is why i like chan sites more these days. you get everyones raw and honest opinions, thoughts and feelings on things instead of a bunch of ass licking posts.

i just wish there was some form of real time chat or private messaging here cause you meet some really cool cats.

Poor black man here, vegetarian, don't drink anything with caffeine in it and I cook my own meals while living in a shitty part of town surrounded by white trash, mexicans and of course other black people (Who you can get along with easier then the other two but that's probably because I'm black too). I used to eat nothing but fast food but decided to try the vegetarian thing out, I stopped buying meat all together and starting only buying fruits, vegetables, bread, eggs and butter, but eventually that got old, so I started looking up vegetarian recipes and eating out on other peoples bills more often and my grocery bill is cut down by 1/3rd. I've gone from spending 40 dollars a week on myself a week to spending less then 20. Of course I use deals and have to borrow money from my family at times but hey could be worse, I could be out of shape.

Pic related, it's who I look like.

Exact reason I left reddit. State an unpopular opinion? Get downvoted into oblivion. And the rules even state that you only downvote off-topic comments ("does not contribute to the conversation" or something) and spam.

Waaaay too many liberals and whiteknights for my tastes.

>i just wish there was some form of real time chat or private messaging here cause you meet some really cool cats.

I went into the /ck/ IRC channel once, and it sucked. Everybody in there seemed to know each other IRL, and it was constantly quiet.

"If you build it, they will come."

Make a channel and I'll be there.

whiteknight liberals are the biggest hypocrites in the world. its only free speech till you hurt their wittle feelings.

i was thinking about starting my own chan (a small one for people in my town) but i figured /b/ tards would just use it to dump pizza while i slept.

That's because you need to fucking lurk an online community before simply jumping in and attempting to be accepted by the members that have been there for years.

This is how it was years ago... Now sites like this are full of literal children shitposting all day on almost every fucking board.
