>grow up using Tabasco
>used to think it was too hot, used it anyways
>got very used to the "heat"
>moved to college, starting exploring different tastes
>decide Tabasco and other mainstream sauces are for peasants
>start exclusively buying obscure hot sauces and super-hot pepper extracts
>douse all my food in these gourmet sauces, can't even taste food
>use so much pepper extract that I have no taste buds
>I think I'm badass and have good tastes
>get into cooking, start actually paying attention to the flavors of food
>don't use overpowering sauces so much, lay off the extracts
>cook food that tastes good and spicy without gourmet hot sauce
>push all sauces to the back of the fridge, forgotten
>all except one
>keep my Tabasco on the table
>use it on bland foods instead of salt, it enhances flavor without overpowering anything
>it consistently and subtly makes things taste slightly better
>MFW I've gone full circle

>> No.4062531

Thank you, OP. This thread is kind of heart warming. Your experiences parallel my own.

>> No.4062543

Is this actually an allegory story about how you grew up next door to your destined true love? At first you though she was too hot for you, but you got used to her and made friends, dated in high school. You then moved to college and broke up with your sweetheart in favor of other women. You start dating and banging more and more better and better looking women. You have so many alcohol and cocaine fueled sex orgies that you can't remember all the random people you slept with. You probably even experimented in homosexuality. All the while you'd completely forgotten about the sweet and caring girl next door you left back in your hometown. You then eventually hit rock bottom when you drunkenly wreck a car full of prostitutes and cocaine into a parked police car. You are arrested, spend a short time in jail and decide to change your life. You check yourself into rehab and become become very spiritual and completely clean. You completely cut off all the wild and exotic women you used to bang in college. You go back home to reconcile with your family and run into the sweet girl next door. The two of you become reacquainted and start dating. You understand that all along the one and only girl for you was right there next door the entire time. You fall in love and live happily ever after.

I know that feel OP. I still like to experiment with different sauces, but I have nothing against using tabasco since it's not something I use that often anyway.

>> No.4062638

The same thing happened to me.
Now I have a cabinet full of hot sauces I hardly ever touch and a bottle of Tabasco sitting on the table at all times.

>> No.4062657

Tabasco isn't bad, it's just not that interesting.

You know what sauce is ACTUALLY BAD?

Sriracha.

What a poor faggot's excuse for a hot sauce. It isn't hot. And it doesn't taste good. It just sounds exotic and has SO KAWAII AZN SYMBOLS ON IT!!!!!! :3

El Tapatio master race.

OP here. Its OK, to each their own. I prefer Tabasco taste as a staple sauce but I also like some other sauces I just don't use them very often at all. Another personal favorite is El Yucateco Xtra hot, its great on tacos and tostadas.

Sriracha....meh. I don't hate it but I don't much like it either, I think its way overrated and sort of a fad right now. I used to use a little on fries and on particularly bad fried rice but I quit using it. For fries I use Russian dressing and if I have really awful fried rice I just throw it away.

Forgot my pick. Also forgot to say that Tabasco is particularly good sprinkled on top of fries, much better than ketchup.

Can anyone tell me what the hot sauce I get on lamb gyros is? I'ts red and pulpy, with like little beige colored seed looking things in it. It's delicious and hot. I kind of assume its a standard thing, but I don't know.

Oh, you know, all the shit falling into the vats, and can't be retrieved because it's too hot (both heat wise and chemically) that they can't get stuff out. Rats, roaches/other bugs, fingers/other body parts, etc. Other stories of putrid shit found around the work floor, bad sanitation practices, High worker injury rates, etc. It was pretty bad. I wish I had screen capped them, but that was years ago before I learned to do that right away with interesting things.
Anyway, it was enough to turn me off of that hot sauce, although you just KNOW its the same with other large scale hot sauce factories, too.

>> No.4062737

>>4062720

I hate to break it to you, but damn near everything you eat has shit like that in it.

It's impossible to keep shit 100% sterile when you're producing food on an industrial scale.

One of my food science professors used chocolate as an example of this; it's not possible to keep bugs out of chocolate when you're literally producing tons of it. They're attracted to it and will find a way in. Any candy bar you buy at a store is guaranteed to have roaches in it. There are regulations as to what the acceptable "roach level" is in parts-per-million

Oh, I'm fully aware of that. That's one reason why I only eat peanut butter from one of those self-grinding stations in the grocery store. Peanut butter is one of the worst offenders. I know all the regulations, etc. but once you find out about a particular brand of something having those things in it, it's harder to ignore while you're trying to eat it.

This only sounds bad when you first read/hear it. To me anyway. People eat insects willfully every day, you know. And a finger in a ginormous vat of bubbling vinegar and chili sauce (or whatever it is they do) really is kind of... meh. High injuries? Whatever. Injuries happen in every single restaurant you've ever eaten at. Hell everything that happened in that factory the guy worked is no different than any other factory (I know it's been said already).

It's just not a big deal.

>>4062742
>it's harder to ignore while you're trying to eat it.

I know we all don't feel the same way, so I'll give you that. But It doesn't bother me.
