This seems like the thread to ask.

So I've apparently been eating sticky rice at various restaurants/fast food places for a while now, yet I never knew it was a specific type of rice. I thought it was just some bland rice just cooked in some specific manner.

The question: how does one acquire sticky rice for home cooking? I don't ever recall reading such a name on any of the rice sold at the store. And would it require some sort of special preparation method to be... well, sticky?

Short grain rice is more glutenous than long grain rices, as a general rule of thumb. Japanese rices, as a rule of thumb, are the short grain variety, while the sort we eat in America and can easily buy in bulk is longer grain.

You can get expensive bags of short grain rice at most grocery stores in the US under the name 'Botan', but if you go to an asian market, you can probably find more varieties and a better price per-pound. I usually get a huge 20 pound bag for about thirty bucks, which is still kind of expensive, but it's a LOT of rice. I use it for all my weeaboo cooking needs.

I've never managed to master the art of rinsing my rise. Recipes always say to rinse until the water runs clear, but I can stand there and rinse for ten minutes and the water is still somewhat cloudy. Either you have really, really, really shitty rice or you are being overly sensitive. Probably the latter.

When you rinse it you should see an obvious decrease in the cloudiness of the water. That's when you should stop rinsing. It may never be perfectly 100% clear.

>I don't like rice at all....I get a little angry and demand another form of starch.
OP, stop being a childish little imp and grow the fuck up.

For everybody else, here's how I like my rice.

I add chicken broth powder, shredded cheese, and lemon juice to the water, stir, and let it cook into the rice. When the rice is done, if I feel it needs more shredded cheese, I'll mix it in and let it melt. When I eat it, I add some pepper to it, and bon apetit!

It's surprisingly delicious.

>> No.4115753

Clear means clear, and you need to constantly shake up the rice to get the loose starch off not just put the whole batch under running water.

Soaking the rice for 15 minutes first helps, then stir, drain, refill, repeat until the water is clear.

That said, don't be a bitch, seems its less an issue of the rice and more an issue of you can't cook it for shit.
