Like the Jell-O salad her mom always made. FUCK.

-peanut butter, Miracle Whip ("it's not mayonnaise it's salad dressing!" and banana sandwiches

-Soup: can of corn, can of peas, can of tomatoes, can of potatoes, can of carrots, browned ground turkey.
"You're the only one who doesn't like my soup Anon, I just don't understand it"

I'm so glad we've mostly weeded out the Depression-era hobo cooking from the national cuisine.
For church socials, my mother would make jello molds with celery antlers.

I'm sad that that era made people despise savory gelatin so much. Granted, it's horrible as an entire meal or main element, but using with other things it can be really nice. Same with pates, terrines, offal meats, and basically anything charcuterie that isn't sausage, bacon, or cold cuts. Stuff got such a bad rap because so many horrible cooks tried their hands at things that take a bit of skill, and companies encouraged it.

I've actually commented on these threads before. I am so immune to them. My grandmother has been making stuff like this forever. I am actually really fond of aspics and the like. I wish they still made veggie flavored Jell-O, I would totally like to try it.

The weird thing about my grandmother's cooking is that half of it is good, if not high-class or gourmet, food that is not from a can or box. Stuff like vegetable soup made from fresh chopped veggies and ox tails or Polish-style cabbage rolls or an extremely good pork tenderloin roast. The other half is stuff like is seen in these ads. It's like she learned how to cook and came into a little money but that didn't change her opinion on stuff like this. I'm thankful for it, though, because I've discovered all kinds of wonderful organ meats, aspics, and cheap meals.

Make your own. It's not hard. Especially if you grab some agar-agar (it's like gelatin but sets at room temperature and can withstand fairly high heats without melting). Boil some vegetables, puree, cook down over a low heat and run the remaining liquid through a strainer. Add the agar and blam, you've got fruit jell-o.

I've made honeyed-ginger and cilantro-lemon garnishes that way, but no reason you couldn't just do plain vegetable jell-o if you've got a hankering.
