I second this. If your ceiling is high enough that you won't need to duck your pans, hanging utensils are really appealing. You can also hang metal spoons, whisks, piping tips, and even bags of onions, garlic, fruit, etc from them.

So the sink is in the corner, there are cabinets above, and to the left and right there is space to use cutting boards (brown things). To the right is the stove (bottom in picture), a hood is above that, and on the left there's a counter along the wall with nothing above it, and far left is a fridge.

The wall above the counter is where I'm thinking of hanging something, It'd pretty long, about four feet or so. Under it I have two stools (that are too tall so I'm just going to donate them), and a trash can. The counter is about 13" depth.

Honestly Moot, if you're not looking to hang too much off it I would recommend finding one that looks nice (and maybe looking up reviews online or something) and just going with that.

That's what I've been considering, but most are 36" wide which is a lot. Also, I don't seem to have studs on this wall except for maybe the far ends -- it's all drywall. I guess I could get heavy-duty anchors, but it might be iffy.

it looks very nice and seems practical but in my experience they're greasedust magnets - unless you don't have a gas stove, have very good ventilation (i have none) and use every single pot and pan on a weekly basis (i don't).

if you don't have studs in the wall nearby, get some heavy duty peg board and attach them where the studs are.

A small bit of peg board against the wall with metal hooks. Paint it a suitable color, then place your tools on it as you get them (you will collect more). I've never heard of a pot rack before. You mean hooks that you hang pots on? Go down to four points in chinatown and look around, there are professional kitchen stores around there too above Canal street, they'll have what you need.

Below Canal street it'll be on the west side of the avenue, but go above Canal, then there multiple stores on the east side of the avenue. Those are the ones that cater to professionals that want to fit out a kitchen, it's no ikea crap. That's where the pros go in NYC moot.

Keep it away from your stove so you dont get cooking vapor, oil, dust, etc, sticking to your pots.

I wasn't, was told not to join this year's event talked with hearts, told again, apologized and encouraged to join next year. There wasn't a shitstorm this year with the exception of the sticky.

My current apartment has a rack above the sink and corner. Just some generic cheap metal one. We got hooks to hang spatulas and serving spoons and such on them. Also saran and aluminum foil. I got lower shelves in the pantry closet, so I toss my cereal on. Plus we also have cutting boards up there.

Why not compromise and get something like pic related?

Find something that can fit under you counter (yeah, I know, 13" or whatever isn't much to work with), and has (locking) wheels for easy moving.

You can both store shit on it and pull it out for extra counter space. I'm probably going to get one of these in the near future (moving and all), and having one with the top shelf as a cutting board sounds amazing.

Just get yourself a bench scraper to clean it off.

On the one hand, whatever kind of hat is in your pic (and everywhere anytime "fedoras" are mentioned on 4chan), that is not a fedora (a trilby?).

On the other hand, the only place I've ever actually seen people wearing one of those hats was when I lived in NYC.

It's pretty clear he's a compulsive liar. He's laid claim to everything from staging at WD50 and being complimented by Thomas Keller (while apprenticing at the French Laundry!) to being homeless. At this point I'm not sure if he's lying about going to culinary school or if he goes but never reads anything. The brunwah mistake was the outstanding one but there have been several other painful misspellings that someone a month into culinary school simply couldn't make.

He also keeps making variations of his tripname/tripcode, he's had at least half a dozen since he began gracing us with his presence. I don't know if that's to confuse us or... I don't know, actually. I think the earliest name he used was In/q/uisitor Koiwoi or something like that, and he made some threads about finding moot a /ck/ girlfriend.

I said that I felt your heart was in the right place and that we would see. So far I haven't seen any evidence to feel like you won't cause another shitstorm. And you did cause a lot of issues at the beginning, like with the whole "where is the drink?" thing. I also suspect the sticky was your doing and all that did was draw a lot of intense people out of the woodwork, half of whom seemed to make it their mission to bombard me with angry emails whenever someone got eliminated. At any rate, like I mentioned in the last Challenge thread, I'm not sure I'm going to be doing the competition next year.
