Chicago hot dogs are okay, but they're not a particular style of sausage, just a method of serving them. I could open a package of Oscar Meyers and serve them as Chicago hot dogs, but Maine hot dogs are seasoned and smoked in a particular way and stuffed into a particular, thick-and-crispy casing. Then snap with you bite into them and I love it.

Hot dogs are one of those things that people are really obsessive about how they're dressed, usually based on regional preferences. It's all subjective, man.

I'm really curious about how people's hot dog topping correlates with where they're from.

I'm from Tennessee and I like my dogs with meat chili, yellow mustard, diced onions and shredded cheddar.

Hot dogs (würstel/würstli) with sauercraut and/or mustard is common, but in northwest Italy (near France), they put a honey-sweetened tomato sauce on them because they're fucking heathens and should be shot on sight.
Cervelat (another type/style of hot dog common in the region) is generally not eaten in a bun, though. They're roasted and often sliced and cooled then tossed with mayonnaise, aromatics and cooked pasta (cervelatsalat).

We do hot dogs in a variety of ways, but my personal favourite is in a split pie containing ground beef, onion and rice, with minced raw onion, pickle salad, a fried egg, and ketchup.

I couldn't find the correct image, so here's what goes by the name of "hydrogen" in the local grills. Meat pie, boiled egg, ham slices, and condiments of choice.

I spent a couple weeks in Davenport, Iowa for work. I figured the one upside would be delicious fresh corn. This was around August, harvest time. I don't know what the problem was, but stores were selling stale corn imported from other states. I mean the entire state is covered in corn, but it never seemed to occur to anyone that they could eat it, all they grow are varieties for animal feed or ethanol fuel additive.

Every time I have had a chicago dog I have been disappointed. I can never get a bite with all that shit at once, so why even put it together. Here in Germany we have Döner, the only problem is that 9 out of 10 places that make it suck. And 1 out of 10 places that are actually good are only good between 11am and 1pm as long their salad doesn't become something similiar to a used tissue.
