Cocktail thread?

I'm pretty drunk as is, and someone stole my whiskey. All I have in my liquor cabinet is a bottle of Campari.

Thing is I've never tasted this before. Any decent cocktails I can make with this shit?
Does it taste good straight? I need to go deeper so I don't kill myself before the night is over.

>> No.5022922

Campari is awesome. It sucks about your whiskey, they are wonderful together.

Try it with some bubbling water?

>> No.5022932

>>5022922

I don't have any soda. What does it taste like? I've actually tried diluting spirits with water before and it's not that bad.

The tap water where I live is close in quality to storebought sparkling water, minus the bubbles of course.

>> No.5022937

I've never had it straight but I fucking love a Negroni, me. Sure there's no way to rustle up some gin?

Otherwise, yeah, just get some soda water and make do.

>>5022937

God, I wish I could get some gin right now.

A gin and tonic with a slice of lime is my favorite drink right now.

What the fuck is wrong with you, how hard can it be to try a sip?? I get that you're asking for recipes but god dammit, just try it if you want to know what it tastes like!?

Fuck tonic! Campari and vermouth, motherfucker! get that shit together with the gin and go to town. Tonic is a bitch. A straight bitch.

campari is usually added to cocktails, not their main ingredient.
You could mix it with water and dump a shitload of sugar in it.

Gonna try it.

I'm eating a shitload of chocolate to try and kill the taste after every sip. I can't deal.

I really like Campari. Definitely an acquired taste.

I always have a bottle of campari in the fridge. I mix it with some club soda and a bit of ice.

I absolutely LOVE Campari straight, chilled or over ice.

A great cocktail of campari is to shake it till it has frothed, served over crushed ice.

What is odd is that the (OP) has Campari but has never tried it?

>> No.5023041

>>5023023

aight shit.

I'll be better prepared next time. I'll go shopping for cocktail ingredients, and even if I don't drink this shit ASAP, it's not like it will go bad.

It was a gift.
It's been sitting besides my bottle of Grand Marnier (also untested) for a while now.

I'm not big on drinking, but it's been a tough week.

Grand Marnier and Campari are both widely considered mixing spirits... though the GM would probably have been the better choice to drink pure.

At this alc percentage shit doesnt go bad for years. Also I've just got an idea so simple I feel dumb not thinking about it before: Mix the GM with the campari. Should not be too bad.

Holy fuck, what an idea.
Should I sweeten it with sugar?

>> No.5023119

>>5023113
Adding solid sugar won't do shit when the liquid is at room temperature, bro. To sweeten something based on water, you need to heat it up considerable. It won't do shit because the sugar won't dissolve. The GM is already sweetened so it'll mix.

>> No.5023125

>>5023100
No. Do not sweeten the Campari. It's sweet enough. Drink over ice. If you have soda water so much the better. Sugar and alcohol together just means a worse hangover tomorrow.

Open several tabs on your browser, dick around on the internet and drink the Campari slowly. Piss before going to bed.

That's fine, I'm just saying, it's not going to make it sweet. All the sugar you put in just going to settle at the bottom of the glass p much.

Sugar mixed into a spirit such as Campari is going to make you HORRIBLY ill.

Stop.
FULL STOP.

2 or 3 fingers of Campari enough to be had for an entire evening.
How much have you poured, considering it's like $30 for a bottle?

At this point, throw what you've poured and doctored down the drain.

Drink some clean ice water.

Then try the Grand Marnier.

Any opened bottle of spirits will keep for YEARS even at room temp as long as properly capped. So save the Camari for when you think you have a taste for it.

>> No.5023164

>>5023153
Relax... As someone only occasionally drinking campari-o I get OPs aversion trying it pure.
If you have any fruitjuices OP try mixing them, or the GM (that will be high on alcohol but that's what you want I assume)

Since we're on the subject I didn't know of any cocktails that blended both Campari and Grand Mernier.

Seems there is.

A Campari Collins.

- 1 ½ parts Campari
- ½ part Grand Marnier
- 1 part sweetened lemon juice (1 part simple syrup, 1 part lemon juice)
- 1 parte soda

Preparation

Stir all the ingredients together without ice, then pour into a juice glass with ice. Add the soda and garnish with a slice of orange.
I cannot quite imagine the taste... :/

mix the campari with something sour op. there is some kind of vodo about how a sour and a bitter together tastes less bitter because SCIENCE or something. campari is an acquired taste tho, I take one part campari, few shakes of Angostura, three parts club soda and half a sweet lime on ice in the summer, damn refreshing in the heat but fuck iced drinks in the winter. warm campari sounds horrible
