My dad tried to make his own "light" version of a weißbier by mixing it with water... This tastes exactly like that. Not to mention he never did that again.

Boreal 25 here, one really nice bear brewed by a Quebec company which kept quality standards for a big brewery.

It's a wheat slightly aromatized with orange zest and coriander seed. Nothing close to Belgium white bear though, it remind me more of a strong german style bear since the malted barley ,the wheat and the hop are predominant flavour.

I've got a question hopefully one of you can answer.

Why exactly does tap beer (from a metal keg) taste so much better than can beer?
Is there different lining or metal in them? or is it somehow affected the volume they're stored in.

>> No.5101556

>>5101539
It's the carbonation and temperature (they're linked) which is better controlled in a good bar than when you serve yourself a beer. Also drinking out of a glass allows you to smell the beer and therefore taste it more.

If you serve a beer at the right temp, and pour it in a glass, it will be as good as you can get out of tap.

>> No.5101557

>>5101539
better storage and serving mainly. Also most kegs don't sit around too long waiting to be drunk.

When you drink a beer out of a can (I'm assuming you're pouring it into a glass of course), you're dealing with the original Co2 that they put into the can to keep it fresh. Kegs have this as well, but you do get some fresh Co2 from the draft lines when pouring. My guess it makes it taste a bit "cleaner" "crisper".

Of course new canning methods have largerly eliminated the "on draft" vs "can" quality gap, but it's still not the same.

Could also be aesthetics and basic placebo affect

>> No.5101575

>>5101557
could be. But if it was fresh Co2 that could explain some too.

With nicer beers the difference isn't too much, but when I first had a Budweiser from a bar it was clearly much more carbonated than I've seen before, and it actually tasted decent, although sweet.

>> No.5101584

>>5101575
Well, another thing most bars do (incorrectly) is they over carb their lines and keep their coolers too cold.

This combination leads to all that beer waste you see when they are filling glasses to get rid of the "foam". Another side of effect of this is that colder beers will numb your taste buds so you won't get the full flavor, as well as the too much Co2 makes it harder for the beer to make contact with your taste buds. Which is exactly why bars like to poor macroswill at really cold temps and at really high Co2 rates. So you don't taste how shitty it really is.

Which of course hurts craft brews because they actually want you to taste their product. Best course of action is to order a beer and let it sit for a few minutes while warming in your hand to help bring it up to proper temp (if it is served too far below to begin with)

Has actual taste as opposed to bland macro lagers, very low bitterness due to lack of hops, bretty gud. Hoegaarden would be a good one to try. Otherwise if you want some non-import (and thus cheaper) beer, Trader Joe's Hefeweizen is great for the price.

But that's just my opinion, even to this day I prefer malty over hoppy and hate IPAs. Also I prefer Yuro wheat beers since they're normally more traditional

Find out what style of beer it is and the attributes of that style (you can look it up on a site like beeradvocate or whatever if it doesn't say on the bottle.)

I wont drink any Budweiser, Miller, or Coors product, period. I would rather just order a water at a bar that only serves bland mass-produced trash.

Yes I actually do like Heineken, I have a lot of friends that dont like it. Its a lot hoppier than most pilsners, and there isnt MUCH other flavor besides that strong hop flavor (and a hint of malt), so I suspect people that dont like it are adverse to Heineken's particular strain of hops. I like to start (and often end) with drinking Heineken, because it has a good ABV%, isnt too flavorful, and has never given me a hangover, which is of course directly related to the brewing process and attests to the qaulity of ingredients used

Some beer is meant to be drunk at room temperature and making it cold just blunts the flavour. You wouldn't serve red wine chilled and you wouldn't serve a lager at room temperature. It depends on the beer.

Boddy's is ok. I'm from Manchester so they have it on draught everywhere here. I see it as a good compromise beer, if a pub doesn't have any good cask ales and mostly has shitty lager like Fosters and Carlsberg I'll go for a Boddingtons or a Guinness.

Beer drinking is relatively cheap if you confine it to your own home, it's at bars and events that having good taste become ridiculously fucking expensive.

With really quality beers ($10+ for 750ml) they usually have high ABV so it's not like you have to drink a ton of them like you do with cheap shit, and with decent quality you're usually looking at about ~11 for a 4 pack.

Probably the fastest way to familiarize yourself with a variety of beer styles is to try and get ahold of one of each beer made by Dogfish Head or Stone Brewery, that's usually not that big of a challenge.
