Real talk. If I were you, I'd be aware that tempered glass can fail unpredictably and spectacularly ie, shatter for no apparent reason due to internal stresses overcoming the surface tension (aka 'tempering') once chipped or scratched.

With that in mind, if you absolutely have to use this pan to cook:

Avoid metal utensils.
Shallow/deep fat frying is right out.
Be careful.

Yes I'm aware of that. I'm also aware it's either borosilicate glass or the cheaper substitute that's usually used today.

Regardless, my comments above hold.

I speak from experience, it's not theoretical:

I have had a similar experience. I had a pyrex baking dish fail in a similar manner after some condensation got onto it. I also had a pyrex measuring cup explode in the dishwasher rinse cycle--and my dishwasher washes and rinses with hot water.

I mostly use an induction burner so I can't use one of those. But I always figured since glass both insulates well and holds very little heat, it's pretty close to the worst possible choice for a cooking material.

In the late 90s they stopped making Pyrex and started making "Pyrex." It's cheap crap that they pay to stamp the Pyrex trademark on, but is otherwise unrelated.

Sorry, I was using the term generically, like how some people refer to all "sodas" as a "Coke".

These were two different brands, one was from the 80's and the other was relatively recent (2000-something). Both were borosilicate glass (of which Pyrex is just one of many trade names), and both were rated oven-safe according to the packaging. The measuring cup was Anchor Hocking brand. I do not recall the brand of the tray.

Some of the newer "pyrex" is made from tempered soda-lime glass rather than borosilicate. I did not have those, both of mine that failed were the real deal. You can tell them apart from the color. Proper borosilicate is clear, soda-lime has a greenish tinge to it.

Oh, and I do have many other pyrex bowls, cups, and bakeware that I have lasted for years without any problem at all. But I did want to point out that even if you have the real thing (borosilicate) it can still potentially fail.

Yes, sort of. Corning used to (still does?) market this amber glass stuff under the Vision brand name. It's quite weird to be cooking on the stovetop in glass but it works well enough. It's ideally suited to gas I believe; definitely not recommended for a halogen hob since the heat goes through the pan and burns the food readily.
