Why don't people start making things that are easily made vegan, vegan?

We all know vegan food is better for the environment, animals, and is usually healthier for us. So why are we still adding unnecessary animal ingredients when we know there is a just as delicious alternative that does much less harm?

I guess I can see why people have a hard time giving up steak, or would rather not order the vegan option at a country diner - but when you're cooking for yourself, why not try to eat more vegan foods? It's not like it's hard.

After lobbying by giving big "donations" to political parties, a bill can be passed to allow it and FDA can't do anything about it. Vegans can get together and do a campaign for it to raise funds.

After passing over the "eww" factor, it can be a good food item for vegans. Many teenagers might do "eww" but many adults will be okay with it.

I often come across recipes for cupcakes or things like that that would taste just as delicious if not more delicious if they were made vegan, and it seems weird to me.

This stuff should be vegan by default, but because our culture has stuck animal products in basically everything for so long, most people just assume that that's the way you should make it.

It especially bothers me when most of a restaurants menu items could have been veganized, but then they'll just have like one or two vegan options on the menu, and it will be something stupid like a Boca patty instead of beef. Or oatmeal with maybe if you're lucky a side of fruit.

I have had a lot of vegan meals before, usually through vegan friends or just curiosity.

I have had exactly one good one. Was if some new kind of solidified meat-ish product?

It was FUCKING VEGETABLES. Just high quality vegetables in unique and tasty combinations. Eggplant and tomato with cornmeal, fried in EVOO. Grilled zucchini with red wine braised cabbage. Wild rice in avocado/cilantro cream. Endives with mandarin orange, hazelnuts, and coconut milk flan.

Nothing in quotes. Nothing was a "vegan (insert common food here)". It wasn't some science experiment of agar, cashew flour, and palm oil. Just good, solid, real food that just happened to satisfy vegan requirements.

I agree that a lot of times simple, whole foods can be the best. But just because something is made to replace something else doesn't mean it's not real food.

There are bad vegan products and there are good ones. I've heard from omnivores that they like cashew "cheese" better than real cheese.

I've been vegan for four years and while I tend to go for the whole foods, there are some really good faux meats and cheeses. I don't see it as fake food (unless there really are a ton of chemicals but that's not usually the case with the faux meats and cheeses I eat). It's usually just a blend of different proteins, seasoned and formed into a shape that resembles what it's meant to replace. I see nothing wrong with that. For some reason people like to demonize it as if this means that vegans are hypocrites. But that's another discussion.

A lot of times I think people have one or two bad experiences with these products and decide that all of them are disgusting.

Gardein is a very popular one that's pretty healthy.

Way healthier than actual meat. But I would REALLY rather not get into a discussion about that because I'm about to go to sleep and it would be never ending.

gardein: water, soy protein isolate*, vital wheat gluten*, expeller pressed/canola oil, organic ancient grain flour (kamut ®, amaranth, millet, quinoa), natural flavor (from plant sources), modified vegetable gum, yeast extract, sea salt, organic cane sugar, potato starch, onion powder, garlic powder, pea protein, vinegar, carrot fiber, beetroot fiber, extractives of paprika and turmeric. seven grain breading: wheat flour*, water, rice flour, oat bran, oats, salt, sugar, spices, millet flour, amaranth flour, quinoa flour, kamut®, leavening (sodium bicarbonate, cream of tartar), yeast, extractives of paprika. *Non-genetically engineered soy and wheat.

Then there's just plain old seitan (wheat gluten). Tempeh is used to replace meat. Coconut bacon. Mushrooms and jackfruit can be used to replace meat. There are tons of products on the market so I'm not going to go through and list them all.

Soy is not poison unless it's GMO. Dairy is more like poison. Also, ew. You're drinking fluid that comes from the mammary glands of cows. Likely filled with pus. You have no right to complain about soy.

There's also Daiya. Daiya is creamier than cheese and works very well in creamy soups. Like this one:

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Here's what's going on. A vegan is going to depend upon, largely, hydrogenated vegetable oils to replace animal-derived saturated fats. Hydrogenated vegetable oils are trans-fats, and are simply low-quality fats no fucking good for you.

Furthermore, trying baking anything without eggs. On top of that, eggs are just really high quality proteins complete with a wide variety of amino acids.

Here's what you're going to have to accept if you don't want to undying loathing of 95% of the world's population. Most people would rather castrate themselves than be vegan. Preachy vegans brings out that same desire to castrate, but applies a different subject--that is the preachy vegan faggot. So every time you start mouthing off, everyone else is looking for an appropriately rusty meat-hook with which to rip off your balls.

Baking soda and vinegar (cakes), black beans (sounds gross but works perfectly for brownies), apple sauce (cakes and muffins), tofu, vegan yogurt, banana (I like to mix banana and peanut butter together when making chocolate chip cookies), egg replacer (mix of starches), flax seed, chia seed, the list goes on.
