Pretty shitty vegetables, but gets the job done. 6/10, but depends entirely on how the steak is cooked.

> how do i not fill my house with smoke when i make steak?

I let my steaks come close to room temp before cooking and then pan-fry them at medium heat with butter. It's good for a medium-rare. If you want something closer to medium-well, you can always use a meat hammer to flatten it out.

My mother cooked mainly from the box pasta and soup and I haven't been out on my own long enough to try everything I never had as a kid. Right now I am stuck on tomatoes. Soooo good

definitely murican. Sorry if it had to do with your budget... but ... the truth is even well-off americans rarely take the time to make real food.

Wait til you try tomatoes with eggplant.

As with everything in life the small early season eggplants are the most tasty. Wait for midsummer.

>> No.5304667

>>5304663

tomatoes, eggplant, and GARLIC = god tier combo. Maybe add a little greens in there... and you can make the best douxelle/roux whatever its called.

>> No.5304670

>>5304667
duxelle is a mash up of mushrooms.
Roux is flour cooked with some fat used to thicken sauces.

As a minimum wage worker with no welfare or such that eats all mostly food cooked from home with fresh ingredients, it is A LOT cheaper. Leaps and bounds one might say. My mother was lazy and we weren't so much poor as she didn't want me to know we had money so she only spent it on things she thought I didn't notice.

By the way I live off of $700 a month and only $60 or so goes to food and eat gobs of food like a fat chick, because I am one.

>> No.5304696

>>5304670
oh okay. so then its neither of those, huh....

There's gotta be a term just like a duxelle but without the mushrooms... you know, like sauteed garlic, onions, and eggplants... we call it "caviar'... you can also call it a "salsa" i guess....

What's a "penne"?

you gotta teach me, man. How do you do this??

I only know one other friend that lives off such a little amount of food - but he's a giant lard ass now and has health problems. (living on a diet of nothing but pasta every single day, and 7-11 burritos when starving... thatll do that)

I just don't get what you can make... i kind of hate pasta, and love meat. So right there, my budget is tanked. I can do rice and beans but only as a side. Same thing with pastas and grains. I can't just eat... like a bunch of buckweat with butter and no meat...

What's your typical day - breakfast, lunch, dinner on your 60 bucks?

>> No.5304710

>>5304702
i just meant you take the eggplant, garlic, onions probably, and tomatoes... and basil.... and you keep sauteeing it until it turns into one thing - like a thickish kind of delicious garlic sauce.

Then you put that on toast or some shit. But i'm sure there's a better word for it then "eggplant sautee"

egglant caviar is the name of it, funnily enough.

Well, I eat a lot of chicken and I am also the type of person who prefers to use not much other than pepper for seasoning, but... Today I had a 2 egg, 2oz of sausage, 2oz block cheddar, 2oz fresh made pico de gallo burrito split into two. And then 4oz of sausage half an onion and a couple of sweet peppers with a bit of cheese in two burritos. Later I will be having lemon pepper chicken with broccoli.

I drink a lot of water and space out my food. It feels like I am always eating.

Probably due to my stealing condiments from work (Lions Choice, think Arby's but a ton better) and as you can tell with my annotated breakfast burrito, my counting out everything into servings... I also buy from Costco, Aldi, or Walmart depending on what is cheaper at the time. My bimonthly grocery list is chicken breasts, bag o' sweet peppers, about 5 tomatoes, a jalapeno, a thing of lime juice, cilantro, some italian sausage usually sweet, block o' cheese, and 16 count wheat tortillas. I have a stock of canned green beans and chicken flavored ramen left over from the dark ages of newly out on my own panic. The broccoli I am having tonight is a gift from my manager for doing a 16 hour shift at no notice yesterday.

this. as some one who loves to cook, having a girl who is brainwashed into thinking triple digit weight is an abomination is so fucking unattractive.

on the other side of the coin, I don't want a land whale either, just enough to grab onto something and have the sex with without feeling like I'm going to break her

I'm 240lbs and have been steadily losing weight since August when I was 280. I want to be about 180 to 200. I am 5'10" by the by. I'm more worried about changing what I eat though.

I went from soda to water and now I can't stomach soda. A lot of other junk food is going the same way.
