I have a mixed opinion. I've read several of his earlier cookbooks and didn't care for them very much--the recipes just weren't very good.

On the other hand, I am a big fan of his book "Jamie's Food Revolution". It's an ideal beginner cookbook in my opinion. I cannot recommend it enough (for beginners). It has step-by-step color photos of every recipe. All of the recipes are from scratch, yet they are simple, well explained, and call for only basic ingredients that you should have little trouble finding anywhere. It covers basic techniques and kitchen supplies. Perfect all-around cookbook for beginners!

I haven't read any of his later cookbooks or seen his current TV programs so I can't comment on that (though I hear he has developed a thing for olive oil?). I like the fact that he is interested in restoring a more wholesome public school diet.

He uses olive oil a lot in his earlier tv shows (still recent though) but in his latest (?) book, SAve with Jamie (Student!), he uses about 5-6 different oils. Olive oil is his most used in it, but thats because he's an advocate of healthy eating, and damn olice oil is good? At least I thought

I am a true beginner so I will have a look at that book thanks

Jamies '15 minute meals' really pisses me off. Sure its 15 mintues if you really really rush it, but in reality the average home chef doesnt cook like that. And also, that 15 minutes doesnt include a lot of preperation time which clearly is part of the cooking. Additionally his desperate desire to present the food 'rustically' just turns in to chucking it on a board and it all looking like shit.

And then the use of a gallon of oil per dish also pisses me off

i don't. i'm not necessarily the kind of person he's supposed to appeal to but i still think he's an excellent tv chef. the 30/15 minute meals are brilliantly devised - if you take issue with the fact that it's fairly hard to get them done in the stated time, you are autistic, as the whole point is to show how an organised cook who is fluent in the use of their kitchen and timesaving methods of cooking can get things done very quickly whilst still using fresh, from scratch ingredients.

all the bitching about his use of olive oil is just memetastic shitposting. it's not like his way of cooking things in it and finishing things with it is anything new. take issue with the whole fucking mediterranean.

Used to like watching his show when I was younger, not neccessarily for recipes, but for techniques and ideas. Didn't watch anything by him for awhile, but then he partnered with Sobeys(chain grocery store) for that "food revolution" thing. Oh yeah Jamie, a shelf by the meat department that sells $30 sets of sundae glasses and cutting boards. Changing lives for sure. Congrats on the cash grab I guess, people will probably buy that junk.

Been a really long time since i watched anything related to him. I just remember one episode of i think it was the naked chef where he had one of his buddies who was an elvis impersonator over. So he made "real, authentic, elvis impersonator approved american" hamburgers. Elvis guy insisted that a real burger has nothing but ketchup on it. No onions, no cheese, no pickles, no mustard, just loads and loads of ketchup. Fucking disgusting.
Or when he made "real, authentic, rustic, italian" pizza with more olive oil and green shit like spinach on it than sauce or cheese.

My opinion is neutral.

I've looked up some of his recipes before but I don't recall the meal/s.

I normally follow recipes based on whatever ingredients are closest to their expiry date (or whatever term is relevant to fresh produce). The author of the recipe is not particularly relevant.
