What is for dinner, /ck/?

I am on vacation with family and just had some of the best Asian food I have had in a while. And I frequent some good Asian places too.

Here is mango chicken, veggie pad thai, and crystal scallops.

I have a couple amazing sushi places near my place, and this is as great if not better than those.

Can't always find pickled plum and cucumber rolls. And the salmon row with quail egg is even better than the one I get back home. They even added shiso.

Critiques:

- Cucumber roll is not rolled properly. The seaweed should never go inside of the rice.

- Wasabi should always be at the bottom right corner, for easier access.

- Tamagoyaki does not belong on that platter.

- The sushi should be arranged from bottom right to top left, so it's easier to take with chopsticks.

- Daikon is machine sliced. Tsuma should always be hand cut for better texture and appearance (pic related)

I'm just pointing this out because OP claims that this sushi place is "amazing."

You don't need to be Japanese to cook properly.

Spaghetti should always be al dente, regardless of the nationality of the person making it.

>>5597896

I have no reason to doubt that the person who made this is Japanese, but if he is an actual 板前 with proper training, the donburi would have been in the middle, the dipping sauce on the front right, and the tsukemono and aemono in the back.

Of course there's no hard fast rule for teishoku, but that's just how it's arranged most of the time.

Also, misoshiru doesn't have to be on the left. In fact, it's usually on the right hand side. Like I mentioned earlier, there's no hard fast rule.

That looks like a great spread! What does steaming do for the fish? Can you do it with a vegetable steamer?

I'm at work tonight. Here's what I managed to come up with. Simple kale/spinach salad with beans and some store-bought dressing; a yam diced up and sauteed with garlic chunks, paprika and salt; and a venison steak that I marinated a little bit in some terriyaki.

It was damn delicious. The salad went down quick and wasn't noteworthy. The venison was delicious and had pretty admirable grill marks to boot, though my phone doesn't do it justice. What I was really impressed with was that yam. I sauteed with safflower oil and butter, and threw the garlic chunks in toward the end. The flavors fit together like a puzzle. Sweet yam, a little salt, and then a bit of that roasted garlic flavor. Some of the yam caramelized also. I'm giving it another round tomorrow, exact same plan.

Because the rice and fish at the 22 dollar AYCE is shit quality and made by second tier asians and mexicans. You just can't tell that the AYCE place is shit and you think all rice and fish are equal.

>> No.5604342

In my experience, it makes for a much more flavourful fish but also a lighter taste. I think white fish benefit from it the most. A vegetable steamer would certainly work. I would personally put it in a plate or shallow bowl first and not straight in the steamer, which will also give you a little fish broth.
