hello fellow cooks

I was wondering if anyone on /ck/ would be interested in doing like a 'meal of the week' cooking on /ck/ where throughout the year each week we all cook one dish and post the results in a single thread

this will allow everyone to experience new things and grow as cooks together

thoughts?

Sounds like fun OP id do it if you really up for it. But you might want to have an off season or watch out and do different dishes during the /ck/ iron chef/chopped whatever its called competition thats coming up.

What do you suggest OP? Want to do some kind of winter dish since its so cold this week? Or a regional type dish to get to know where different /ck/bros come from?

Sounds good op maybe post give 5 different dish's and we pick from the 5 each fortnight? I think one a week might be to much for some people.

I'm nowhere near confident enough to contribute meal suggestions, but I'll try more or less anything.

>> No.6146288

How about rather than a specific dish, a meal theme or cuisine theme or 'starring' ingredient?
I'd rather see 150 (I know we're not going to actually get that many in any given thread, but I'm giving the greatest number possible) different general meals based around chicken than 150 renditions of roast chicken. Or a bunch of different homemade soups than several pictures specifically of vichyssoise. Or Valentine's meals or your understanding of curry or Japanese food rather than steak au poivre, vindaloo or saba shioyaki specifically.

Yeah, I can see this going well.
Reddit's probably a better place for you, OP. Many of their cooking subs have recurring weekly threads exactly for circlejerking garbage like this. Fuck off over there and leave us to our fast food shilling and occasional actual discussion.

Kind of by chance I guess, maybe make a strawpoll and leave it open from now until the week of valentines and the most voted will be the inaugural catagory. Can be valentine or antivalentine style and go on from there if we want it bi weekly or monthly like a club.

>>6146830
But how does OP decide? Not saying that OP is an ignorant fuck to the culinary world, but I'd hate to have the options limited to a single person's choices. Rather, maybe a rotating decider would be nice? Like... whoever cooks the best looking dish that week/fortnight/month decides what participants cook the following week/fortnight/month, maybe? And s/he can't be chosen twice in a row or something, to give each of us and our wide range of cultural and culinary influences apt chance to introduce us to something new.

I mean... what if OP was some cunt from Ternopil who has never left the area? Very limited world experiences will mean very limited knowledge of what to suggest for the rest of us. Rotating would be the best way, I think.

I don't think it's the same dish every night but one dish and you can make it any day of that week.

OP so taking multiple people's ideas
>rotating foods
>general theme
>winner's choice
>easier for some people

Rotating 3 week schedule of cooking
1 week easy simple beginner meal (think like low level cooking)
1 week specific dish (can be more complex, ethnic, whatever)
1 week of general theme (country, specific meat, etc)

The winner of their week would choose the corresponding meal 3 weeks later, this gives everyone time in the interim to acquire any ingredients and plan, otherwise voting would run into the next week that meals needed to be made
Also Monday-Sunday for each 'week' timeframe

None. Just agreement, especially with the triweekly rotation idea. I assume you choose the first three thingies?

It should start at the beginning of March/End of February, same as last year, FYI.

I'd participate sometimes, sounds like a good idea. Just keep it informal, not as a competition or a namefag thing. There's already a competition.

The 'competition' part I feel would only be to decide whatever is cooked the next time, not really for bragging rights or a true competition of 'winner'

Sure, I was thinking breakfast to start for the weeks as a good start

1st week -simple- french toast (not too many steps for beginners and easy ingredients)
2nd week -specific- eggs benedict (people can put their own spin on it, eases people in with learning hollandaise sauce)
3rd week -general- eggs! any sort of egg done any way you want, but egg-centric or featuring egg (this'll allow people with leftover eggs from first 2 weeks to easily be involved)
4th week -simple meal- WINNER OF 1st WEEK CHOICE
5th week -specific dish- WINNER OF 2nd WEEK CHOICE
6th week -general theme- WINNER of 3rd WEEK CHOICE
and so on

Then my over-the-top idea for French toast will have to wait a bit. I just baked a loaf of bread today and would want to bake brioche, cut off a few slices and allow them to stale for the dish. Once I'm finished this bread, I'll start my brioche then make the French toast the day thereafter.

>> No.6147542

Fancy

although for the more beginner/simple folks I'm expecting whatever bread they have on hand lol, most likely white bread

>> No.6147560

>>6147542
The only white bread I ever have on hand is what I make myself and it's not really fit for French toast. I'm not going to spend $2 on a loaf of white bread when I'm only going to use a few of the slices, so for me, at least, it's brioche or nothing. If you'd prefer, I can either not participate the first week or keep my pics out until after the votes are in for who chooses the next beginner's round.

Really, most breads, brioche included, are pretty easy to make, tbh.

>> No.6147569

>>6147082
So you're proposing exactly what I didn't want:
150 renditions of the same dish rather than 150 entries in the same category.
>week 1: 150 renditions of French toast.
>week 2: 150 renditions of eggs benedict
>week 3: what I actually would have liked to have seen in the first place
Ugh.

naw man, post whatever you make, I was just making a general observation of what I expected, I think it's cool you actually make your own bread and will use it

>>6147569
>week 3: what I actually would have liked to have seen in the first place
then know every 3rd week you'll have a thread you want to participate in and look forward to?
there can be more variety in the other dishes as well if people want to put in time or effort into their own 'interpretation' of them

Make a google document (or git or whatever else)
You should disqualify tripcode users if they use them in the thread, to prevent it becoming /WeeklyTripfagCirclejerk/, like what >>6147049 foresaw.

Why are you making this a competitive thing?
Your OP made it sound like a chance for us to start learning to cook more often, not bang ourselves up with people who are more than competent.

>> No.6148681

>>6148641
Not Op but its not a competition the only remotely competitive aspect is the "winner" gets to pick the next 3 weeks. That way the suggestions stay fresh instead of 1 person thinking them up.

>maybe make a strawpoll

>Make a google document (or git or whatever else)

I liked these suggestions. Use strawpoll to decide and let people enter suggestions for themes in the google doc or something. Then the threads can (hopefully) be purely about discussing the food/theme and how to cook it.

The 'winner decides' thing would require some rules for voting and scoring to actually decide on a winner... and then I think most of the posts in the thread would just be people's score sheets like in the /ck/ challenge threads. Which is why I tend to kinda ignore the /ck/ challenge - I don't want to scroll through 500 posts that just say "0/10" to get the the few posts showing and talking about the food.
