American here. That sounded so good at first. So I just made up some fresh fries, perfectly crunchy and piping hot, only a hint of salt, heaped on a plate with both mayo and ketchup to dip in. The first few bites were amazing. But that shit gets old about twelve fries in when you realize you're dipping a fried food into literal fat and cholesterol then eating it.

To be fair, the French steal a lot of things. Puff pastry is English. Choux pastry and béchamel sauce are Italian, mayonnaise is Spanish, quiche is German, Mornaise sauce is Welsh, croissants are Austrian, brioche is Neapolitan or Greek (no one is quite sure) etc etc etc. All of the most famous "French" foods are just foreign foods relabeled.

When living in England my parents would make them most meals, i am confident i was not American, nor have any of my family ever been anywhere near America.

I moved to Spain and i do only have them once every couple of months with a meal now so i guess that slightly adds to your theory OP, but don't let me get in your way of trying to prove this to the world.
