all of these have definitive meanings and actually can describe different dishes. A rustic egg dish brings a very specific image into most people's minds. Just an egg dish can be anything. Locally sourced, farm-to-table, organic, hand selected, all have definitions that point out the origin of ingredients. I'm not saying locally sourced and organic are better, simply that they aren't worse either. Mouthfeel is literally just the feeling of food in your mouth.

>> No.9224049

>>9224034

A lot of /ck/ hates anything that makes them feel lesser so they act like any food with a bit of effort or heritage is pretentious and unnecessary.
Not to say that these terms aren't abused by pretentious faggots every day. But like you said, sometimes something is actually organic, or made from scratch, or straight from a local farm.

I live in texas and try telling people you don't eat "locally sourced" food like those hippies in california. People pride themselves on raising their own animals and harvesting their own greens here. It's very much an American mindset to grow your own food and support the farmers of your community.

>> No.9224076

>definitive meanings

oh yeah? I don't believe you. go ahead and tell me exactly what "local" means. is it the same for the consumer? how about producers and supply chain? what does the government/USDA say that "local" means? is it the same definition that restaurants their customers use? is there a definition that all 50 states agree on?

go ahead; take a stab at it, buddy. I'm going down to the beach today but I'll expect an attempt at an answer in a few hours when I get back.

>> No.9224087

>>9224076
obviously you can make any word mean anything if you try hard enough, but if a restaurant describes their ingredients as locally sourced and they aren't just fucking lying to you, they get them either directly from a farm they have a partnership with or from a farmer's market that gets them from a farm that isn't in another fucking state or hundreds of miles away from your city. It implies that the ingredients weren't flash frozen for weeks, bruised on the drive over, and have no indication for time of season. For example, you can get locally sourced strawberries beginning of the season that are sweeter than anything you buy in the supermarket.

You might as well say "well Japanese can mean anything, is it Japanese influenced? Is it fusion? Are there just Japanese cooks? Is it really Japanese or is it like food that exists in Japan like Italian pasta?"

Its funny how people are really all the same type of bipedal asshole, but the media and political parties try to pit us against each other, just because most Texans are biggots and racists that want to spite people and are so greedy they don't want to help other people with medical costs if it means higher taxes while most Californians truly care enough about clean air and water and their fellow man that they are willing to pay a price for it in terms of regulation and tax dollars.

What is it about poor people raising their own animals that makes people disgusting human beings... What is it about rich hollyweirders that makes them so generous and kind.

Could the root problem be wealth disparity?

There are all these retarded definition of umami and savory that seem to imply that savory means completely without sweetness while umami has 'hints' of sweetness or that savory is analogous for salty which is completely bullshit.

Just meat is the ultimate savory dish right? Well meat naturally has sugar and amino acids, it's literally what causes the outside to brown up. And you can marinade it in a very sweet mixture, but no one describes the final product as just "very umami", it's sweet and savory.
