What do you have against dairy and eggs? Go visit local farms and support the ones you want. I did relief milking for 4 years, trust me, its nowhere near as bad as you think.

I guess, but its about economics. Used to work on a goat dairy farm once, theyd house them in a shed and have 100 hectares or so that theyd cut and feed out into the shed from a modified bailer. Could feed 100 goats per shed on around 2 acres a day. Really liked this system because they didnt muck up the paddock and ruin the fencing. And the sheds where right next to the dairy shed. Dairys not as wasteful as you think, corn and grass is alot more common then you give it credit for.

Wait I just did some math. An almond takes 1.1 gallons of water to grow. One ounce of almonds is 23 almonds. 16 ouces in a lb. Its takes 404.8 gallons of water to make a pound of almonds. Beef is 1,847 gallons of water per lb. So about 4.5 times the water expenditure. 1lb of 80/20 groud beef has 1,152 calories and 1 lb of almonds has 2,608 calories which is about 2.2 times as many. They provide wildly different forms of nutrition in both vitamins ans fat/carb/protien so in summary. One is marginally more efficient but not significant enough to be bothersome. Almond orchards have problems with drought conditions just like cattle ranchers do. They make two nutritionally different things our bodies need both of and they taste great. Especially beef. Why not have both?

This mostly reflects on how little people care about the clean and jerk in the u.s. Outside if a couple of dumb crossfitters no one does this lift.

Beyond all that not only would a vegan diet suck there is simply nothing wrong with harvesting from animals. I've fed them, medicated them, and milked them never felt bad about it. I've killed a few animals too no issues there either. Once you get your first kill it won't bother you so much anon. Wanna come gut some pigs with my family? They're bummers, i.e. the sow had more babies than she had nipples to give. You'd have to somehow feed all the bummers by hand with an artificial milk replacer formula that's expensive and you'd probably lose some of those to starvation or illness because from experience I can tell you livestock do not do well on the artificial formulas. The ones that survive would be growth stunted and not profitable. Animals that have litters will often have one or two bummers or runts that they basically discard in a wild setting as well.

If a dog was a farm animal, the two would be treated equally poorly.
Hinges on the 'pleasant' treatment of pet dogs being seen as morally correct, and its contrast against farm animals.
In a culture where dogs are bred for food, do you believe this conclusion would be agreeable?

>P2
Arguable. There is none the less an indisputable functional difference.
In the west, most dogs serve as pets or companion animals, a function which requires (from a sheer functionalistic perspective) a different treatment than a living source of food.

Dogs used to be more than just furry things for lonely people to project relationships onto. They used to herd, hunt, and defend. The variety of breeds we have today reflects that history and the methods used to get that variety were as fucked up if not more fucked up than anything agriculture does today. We're talking drowning whole litters of puppies because they didn't have breed specific markings.

>> No.9594375

Yes and no. You're right that dogs were bred for all sorts of various purposes. But working dogs were thought of as exactly that--a working animal, not a pet. They were used for whatever purpose they were bred for, just like a plow horse. Those animals were taken care of to a certain degree--after all, they performed a valuable function--but they were not "pets".

Some dogs, mainly small "lapdog" breeds were bred to be pets.

It's only relatively recently that the pet thing has gone waaay overboard for some people. People spending tens of thousands of dollars on their pets, taking them to animal psychiatrists, giving them organic vegan probiotic homeopathic supplements, etc. etc. People also do stupid things like choose a pet dog based on what they look like, then they get confused when that energetic hunting dog gets bored of living cooped up in a tiny apartment and starts destroying things out of frustration.

Pet owners would do well to research the history of a dog breed before buying one as a pet. Many breeds make great pets--after all, they were bred for that purpose. But a lot of people don't think that way, they just pick whatever breed they like the look of.

So, yeah, pick up a box of mice, take it home and toss it in the freezer. Usually they froze to death before any escaped. Then every couple of weeks you pull one out of the box, toss it in a paper bag, and set it on a lampshade to thaw. The trick is to get it warm, but not so hot that it ruptures and oozes pink goo.
