If the recipe is right they can be pretty tasty or fucking nasty. I consider them a type of candy. Though, not all have added sugar. You can still get dried ones, but those are really rare.

Apricots. Most stone fruits.
Drying these fruits seems better but consider that the ones in store are typically picked too early to develop the sweetness they naturally have. Fresh, tree ripened fruit > anything else.
