Even soap is fine. The soap myth comes from when soap had lye in it, which WILL strip the seasoning, and is actually one method to unseason it to start over (electrolysis, lye, or oven cleaning cycle listed from best to worst)

Just don't leave water in it, dry THOROUGHLY, and never use the dishwasher.

This pan just turns everything that I cook black, cast iron is the pan of the cuck

This, my parents and grandparents washed their cast iron with soap for decades and it never lost its season. Just make sure its good and dry afterwards.

Its honestly hilarious watching city kids who've never used cast iron before flip out about it and how you have to baby it when they're really workhorse pans.

>> No.10408084

you shouldn't even need soap (although you can use it)
just take a paper towel and wipe out the pan while it's still hot - that'll get pretty much anything
if there's stuff stuck to the pan (and there shouldn't be, but whatever, it can happen if you fuck up your cooking) just pour in some coarse salt and scrub with a paper towel, then rinse off with water and dry

for fuck's sake, it's easier to clean cast iron than it is stainless steel in a lot of cases

Illiterates women in the prairie used cast iron usually the same one for generations and all they did was spit out babies, cook for their illiterate farmer husband and not fuck the neighbor's husband and they still managed to figure it out, I don't understand why you in the modern era clearly educated enough to use the internet and legally an adult can't figure it out
