Someone went and let the last one get archived, so here we go again.

Official /Deenz/ Anthem: https://vocaroo.com/i/s00nakAZZQi4

/Deenz/ Recipes: lol no I'm not posting all the recipes like the last shitty OP. Just eat 'em on crackers or something.

I'm personally about to crack open a can of Brunswick brand fillets in Mustard & Dill sauce and thought it was high time for everyone to share the deenz love.

>> No.10528701

>>10528683
It's good but most canned salmon I've had tends to be fishier than sardines and usually still has the spines, which are soft enough to eat but might be a turn-off for some.

Personally I like to mix it with a little mayo and whatever else and chill it to mellow out the fishiness. But if I'm hungry, fuck it, I don't care. It's just the kind of thing I like to eat away from other people for the sake of courtesy.

>>10528688
This whole 'deenz' thing is dumb as fuck, but if you want to try sardines, go for a large filet (e.g. not brisling) skinless/boneless sardine like Season. Avoid anything in mustard or tomato for your first tastes of canned fish because that shit can be weird. Getting some toast or saltines to help break up the oily fishiness will help you if you're not immediately on board with it.

I got inspired by a deenz thread to go to Wal Mart and buy a few kinds to try, as well as some crackers to try them on and some hot sauce if you're into that. My personal favorites right now are either the pic in the OP or pic related. I just throw them on some saltines and add a splash of whatever hot sauce I feel like eating. If you wanna get fancy, some people report success with eggs and potatoes in a frying pan with deenz.

Basically, go to the store, buy some, and eat them on a starch. Figure out where you wanna go from there.

Try a boneless skinless brand in oil for the first time. I usually mash mine up with a lil bit of cream cheese, some green onion, and a few pickled jalapeño slices. Then put it on a cracker. If I want more heat then I'll use some Louisiana style hot sauce on top. Their good. Ate these today.

Anyway, it was pretty good. Good flavor and texture. It's more similar to canned tuna than anything else, so I may actually start buying this instead of canned tuna because you don't need to worry about mercury from salmon.

It's not a meme.

Sardines are a VERY good choice for animal protein for many reasons.

- high protein salt water fish with lots of Omega-3 etc.
- very good % of easily absorbed unsaturated fats
- lower % of heavy metals unlike larger predator fish like tuna or salmon
- ethics wise these fishes live a normal life in freedom until they get caught, unlike most salmon which is literally swimming in, breathing and eating feces in small aqua cultures
- very compatible with a large variety of dishes, can even be turned into sauces etc.
- can be easily portioned and don't go bad since they're canned

/deenz/ are the bomb! They're utilized in European & Asian quisine, in high class restaurants and poor college dorm bums alike. It's the ultimate sea food!

By themselves they taste like a less fishy, more rich and slightly saltier albacore tuna.

They are great in olive oil or hot sauce and any starchy food complements them well by both curbing and absorbing the umami flavor.

They have the benefit of being about as cheap as tuna with less mercury poisoning. I opt for the $1.50-$2.00 boneless and skinless cans since I don't like the bones, but you can eat them as well for an excellent source of calcium.

Sorry, I don't think I've ever shilled a food this hard, but they're just so damn good.

Picked up four tins I hadn't seen before from the asian grocery store.

Portugese Sardines in tomato sauce was fine, but nothing special. I've definitely had better tomato sauce.

Saury in Miso was pretty meh. The miso flavor wasn't very strong, and gave the outside of the fish a very slimy texture

Braised eel was fantastic, sweet and a little sticky

Chili Oil Eel was equally good, maybe better since it replaced some of the eel sauce with chili oil, which balanced better

I LOVE ordering and making banh mi sandwiches with sardines. We've got a great french-style bakery down the road from my house with amazing baguettes. But just get some sardines in a tomato sauce and warm it up, put on bread with cilantro, pickled carrots/onions/radish, and some fresh sliced jalapeno, and it's an amazing and healthy lunch for like ~$3. Add some sriacha or chili paste for a little extra kick.

chicken of the sea are meh. They just taste like their tuna with bones in the middle. Not terrible, but I doubt they're using "true" sardine species.

I used to buy beach cliff because they were adequate and only $1, but now they must use some different species because most of the lots I encounter have a real "spongy" flesh. I've also had some improperly gutted females with some nasty "roe" that I ate anyway.
