After extensive research I have ranked the most popular nuts based on an objective analysis of their merits. This takes into account consuming superior types/varieties/etc as well as their potential when incorporated in various dishes as well as treatment of the nuts themselves (for example, salting and/or roasting). Any other types of nuts I will gladly incorporate but only after the proper amount of scientific testing. If you have opinions contrary to the general nature of this list you're either wrong and/or uneducated about such things though feel free to discuss or disagree.

Pine nuts were a bit of a sticking point for me, though it was decided to put them in the second tier because while they are indeed great, especially in many types of dishes (pesto being a notable example), they don't often stand alone as nuts and nuts alone, the same would be said for cashews if people didn't regularly eat them simply as nuts but pretty much only as an ingredient in a meal. This may have a lot to do with how quickly they become rancid when not frozen, it can happen in a week or two especially if they're unshelled. It's also worth noting that biologically they are not nuts but seeds, though in the culinary sense are nuts.

On a side note, this is my favorite type of pasta to use with pesto.

Issue is that all pines are picky shits about humidity, elevation, shade and growth time, so there's no "cousin" plants then can just graft tolerance and productivity from.

That's too bad because the fucking junipers here are invading like crazy and killing off all the (locally) native trees like live oaks. It's pretty crazy when you cut down a big group of them near a creek and suddenly the little springs start flowing again since those things are water vacuums (hence them doing so well in endless drought) as well as growing like retards in overgrazed fields.
