Why did anyone watch Kitchen Nightmares? Almost every episode went the same god damn way and had that cheesy dramatic music.

I liked the show. But I've said to my friends that every episode is exactly the same with, like you said, the exact same structure and music cues every single time. It's oddly hypnotic.

I hate how he always treats the waitstaff like hapless victims of the restaurant despite also being complicit in selling spoiled food. I know it's because more of the audience have likely been waiters and kitchenfags have that weird self-hatred thing where they like being screamed at but goddamnitt I just want to see him make one of these cuties cry once or twice.

UK version was good. There are moments where he enjoys the food or certain aspects of it and has to put more effort into rebuilding relationships than teaching the staff how to cook.

US version is commercial shlock, manufactured to trigger the same reactions every episode.

grilled romaine is legitimately delicious if you do it right

>split heads of romaine
>generous oil salt and pepper
>grill cut side down on lowish heat long enough to get grill marks and soften the lettuce up a bit but not long enough to completely char it
>off the grill
>cut the butts off, chop up like a normal salad
>serve with some kind of acidic dressing (basic ceasar dressing with lemon juice is good)

the grilled romaine takes on a slightly nutty flavor, it's really good. the guy in the video had the right idea but he fucked up when he just threw the whole head of romaine on the plate without chopping it up or removing the butt.
