Eating contest are such a bizarre human thing. Like it would be pretty hard to explain the reasoning of it to an alien.

I was in the front row for the northeastern semifinals of the Nathan's contest. It's kinda gross being there watching dudes cram soggy bread into their mouths until they cough them up.

Sports are understandable though, there's a strategy and a skill involved. Like chess is easy to explain like each player is making a different puzzle for each other to solve every turn and when you can't solve the opponents puzzle any more you lose.
But eating contest are just odd
