>Why am I so concerned for the humble plastic straw?

>To put it simply, this piece of plastic is the only means by which many disabled people, like me, are able to independently consume liquid on a daily basis. Literally I am talking about every time we need to drink something, be it hot or cold.

>Just imagine, how you would feel if you had to take your own wine glass on a night out? If the purge against single-use plastic straws continues, that is exactly what it will feel like for a disabled person.

why can't restaurants just have straws available if needed but stop giving them out to everyone? i never understood why they gave them out in the first place. do they not wash a glass if the patron used a straw?

The solution is so fuking simple, in fact, there are multiple solutions:

>paper/cardboard straws
>multi-use straws requestable in restaurants
and the zinger
>personal straws, like personal chopsticks

Thank you for your time.

My dad needs straws because of a neurological problem. I understand the need. He would spill everything without one.
Maybe just maybe sure you carry them with you?

Some people have a real aversion to putting their mouths on restaurant glassware.
Myself included, because I've worked in restaurants my entire working life. Fuck that. I will always demand straws when eating out.

the stated reason against that seems to be, "that'd be hard". They anticipated most of the common rebuttals, but their counter-arguments are retarded. But, they are literally handicapped.

Because I work in restaurants, so I know how that shit is taken care of.
Servers polish the silverware as they roll it in napkins, and plates are wiped before being used, even in shitty casual restaurants like an Olive Garden. No one polishes glassware because there's so much of it and the real dirt is disguised by water spots. It takes A LOT of work to make glassware sparkle so no one ever bothers.
I barely even want to drink out of the glasses (besides bar glasses,) straw or no straw. Putting my mouth on the rim of the cup where some fat Murrican mouth might have been guzzling coke from is just too far.

You special nignogs don't get to have a say in every day life.
Okay, if I feel bad for seas, or sea creatures (which I don't), why would you disagree to another special device made just for you that I'm not allowed. Service animal, store vehicle, gum based crutch supports, handicap spots in every parking lot.
I'm asking you are against technology when it doesn't benificate you, but for it when it's beneficiary.
People who aren't anti-abmulatory as yourselves, they "fight" (vote) for you because you're disabled. You're mean, unworthy of our sympathy.

I'm not sure.

I know about 'em from dealing in antiques but I've only seen them in use once: one of Bourdain's TV shows. There were a bunch of Basque dudes with those things getting absoloutely trashed on fancy wine. I have no idea how they are meant to be used. But I do know that I can sell them to rich housewives for a lot of money. And apparently they are a thing in France too since a many of them have French hallmarks.
