>bought kvass from a street vendor
>it was okay, nothing special but not bad

Well atleast the grill selling it was cute.

Cheaper, easier, and quicker to make than most home brews.

low alcohol content (1-2%, up to 3.5% if you nail the yeast, temperature, etc.) but its about the easiest entry point for home made booze.

Been watching a lot of Boris lately. Genuinely love his reviews of slav foods. There are a lot of polish food shops around my city. Pretty tempted to pick some stuff up tbqh

I've never made it myself, but a friend of mine whipped up a batch and it was delicious. Then I ordered it later at a Russian café in my hometown and it was hardly better than carbonated water. It can be great, but it seems to really depend on the batch. Good luck

his recipes are actually pretty legit. Hes no master chef but hes probably got the best slavic cooking tutorials on youtube.

I've been running through a bunch of his dishes. I tweaked his "cheap shashlyk vs expensive" recently. amazing summer grillin food.

and his recipe for plov is the truth and the word. I highly recommend giving his dishes a try.

My live-in prostitute from Ukrain makes kvas sometimes. She says it reminds her of her dad who used to drink it. It just tastes like sweet non-alcoholic beer to me.

Well technically she's my wife. I met her online and she asked if I'd marry her so that she could get a green card. I said I'd do it but only if we regularly "consummated" our marriage if you catch my drift, heh. She agreed and came here and now she has to live with me for a few years before she can get residency.

Don't skimp on the dill, also, pre-cook the meat to drain the fat.

Can you use instant bread yeast for making kvass or should I go and get brewers yeast? And 2 slices of bread doesnt seem like that much for how much water there was.

>> No.10925916

>>10925688
I've done it with regular baking yeast and brewers yeast. Both work, but you'll get better results with brewers yeast. Baking yeast turns out cloudy, and the alcohol content will be lower.

2 slices doesn't seem like enough but it is as a minimum. You can add an extra slice and more raisins if you want yours to be more flavourful though.

I've tried his Pelmeni and Kampot recipes. The Pelmini are amazing. Curry powder also works well with them, and you can use mashed potatoes (with copious amounts of butter) instead of meat. I've found that while the meat ones taste better than the potato ones fresh, the potato ones taste better than the meat ones after they've been in the fridge for a few days. As for the Kampot... it's not bad, but it basically just tastes like sweet fruit tea. I don't like tea. So yeah, if you're a tea lover, make it because it'll probably be great, but for me it's just meh. Maybe it tastes better with a different fruit combination. I used fuji apples and Rainier cherries.

Also tried his super-cheap pan fried bachelor chows, both with macaroni and potatoes. They're alright, wouldn't want to live on them though. Could definitely use some thousand island or at the very least some mayo and ketchup
