Is it just not a thing in America? I haven't seen it anywhere.

Maybe you shouldn't project your experience in Bumfuck, Idaho onto a country of 325 million people.

What is the "Indian-style" that you miss, OP, and why do you think it's ubiquitous enough that you don't have to distinguish it from the Punjabi cuisine that obviously influences Indian-American restaurants?

OP it's not popular in America. In larger cities you can find some Indian but it's not anything like "chinese", thia, or italian.

I'm not sure why because indian food is amazing... but now that I think about it, might have something to do with immigration. You can find all kinds of asians in America but indian people are pretty rare, especially indian people who only aspire to run a restaurant making their people's food.

I live in Portland Oregon, there's a place not too far from me that is basically always empty but their shit is really good. The owner was essentially begging me to spread the word because he's afraid he'll go out of business and have no option to go back to India. It was really sad.

Maybe it's also partly due to the fact that Indian isn't popular/common enough for people to even notice an indian place. It just gets filtered out as not-mcdonalds.

I think the owner is onto something. His restaurant is probably empty because Indian food hasn't been memed enough. What's hot in Portland now?

>> No.10978990

>>10978929
OP asked about America, I have traveled a lot of America. Portland isn't exactly like a lot of America. Portland is a lot like other big cities though, so when I say big cities have Indian, this includes Portland.

Portland does have indian, a lot of it, but it has a lot of other uncommon shit too including every kind of mediterranean, ethiopian, cuban, korean, japanese, every major chinese, russian... i mean really it might be easier to list off what it doesn't have... like decent mexican (it's around but it's hard to find).

I want to say chains have been "hot" because of the population boom but I can't think of a single instance off the top of my head where a local business was replaced by a chain so... I may be wrong.

As far as food trends go I can't think of anything recent. I know German seems to be on the decline... roman houses maybe on the incline.

Not sure really.

Actually now that I think about it, and I just asked my buddy, what is trending is "fusion" food, like for instance Cruz Room on Alberta has fish and chips tacos, or thia tacos... they do tacos but they're not real tacos. Gimmicky, but it's really good still.

Where do you live? I live in PA and new Indian restaurants/grocers open up weekly in my 5 mile radius alone. We have a booming poo in loo population though. Can't drive into town without passing dozens of women in saris walking along the sidewalk. Actually don't mind having them, despite the stereotypes they really don't shit up the area and are nice people.

Stop living in Wyoming? I have one in walking distance and know of at least five in the metro area, probably ten or twelve if you throw in the suburbs. Doesn't matter since I cook my own at home because those dothead kikes want to charge $15 for three pieces of meat in some colored mush. Got some simmering right now. Rate my abortion /ck/:

It's only found in bigger cities because rural rednecks don't eat other cultures foods for the most part, so it wouldn't make sense to have one there.

In my experience, white people don't particularly enjoy the curry smell, or think that if they eat curry they will smell like that for the rest of the month. Also, there is a stigma around indians that they are dirty, so they project it to the cusine from the country, so that plays a part too. Lastly, for most Americans, even plain water is too spicy, so god bless if they taste real, authentic indian curry.
