Cast iron never gets as good as actual nonstick coatings like micro-ceramic or teflon which can cook pancakes completely dry. It doesn't help that the new stuff isn't ground smooth after casting.

I did, and it's wonderful at cooking steaks, pork chops, burgers, sausages, chicken, and bacon. I ended up seasoning it in the oven with bacon fat in 10 thin layers. The coating is as hard and glossy as I can get it. Completely dry, it looks about twice as glossy as the one in that photo. Cleaning it takes about 30 seconds. My stainless pans are harder to clean. Great pan. Still use nonstick for eggs and stainless for braises, sauces, stocks and soups because I don't think the seasoning would hold up to long periods of acids or constant whisking. It's the meat pan.
