What are some dishes that are specific to your region? Here in Düsseldorf we enjoy a specific dark sausage known as "Schwarzleckerwurst". This is typically served with a creamy mustard sauce.

Here in the UK we bake a beef joint until it is brown all the way through. We peel potatoes, dip them in lard or some other heavy grease and bake those too. We then whip up a fluffy pancake batter and bake it. Served with gravy and mushy books vegetables.

To confuse foreigners we call this a Sunday Roast. Despite no roasting being involved.

Btw, I know it's not exclusive to the region but in Westfalen, "Reibekuchen" are veey popular especially during Christmas time. It's basically a form of hash browns. You can have them with salmon, sugar, saute'd mushrooms, or between two slices of black bread. All equally tasty in my book.

I think I know what you mean, brings back memories man. They usually saute quartered champignons together with finely chopped onions and garlic, then add either creme fraiche, salt and pepper. That should be the basis of the recipe, I could imagine that they also use worchester sauce or thyme. Hope that helps.

I can only guess but I'd say "Pilzpfanne" or "Champignonpfanne". Since they're mostly eaten at yearmarkets, you might get better search results when you include the term "Jahrmarkt". There's no definite term for the dish afaik.

It's the perfect size for me. Not too large and yet there's a huge variety of activities you can partake in, like independet movie theaters, lots of concerts and a several different clubs and bars you can visit; there's something for pretty much every taste. The restaurant scene is diverse but unfortunately there aren't many authentic foreign restaurants.
It's pretty green as well. Tons of parks and lakes you can spend your time in and at. What I don't like is how most people are reluctant to try new things so a lot of new restaurants close relatively soon and most parts of the city might be too quite for some people on weekdays. All in all I enjoy living here though..

Stuffed chine: pork preserved in brine, scored deeply and stuffed with herbs (mostly parsley), simmered slowly, and served cold in thin slices.
Traditionally made using the neck chine (the cut between the shoulder blades), although it seems to often be done with leg cuts these days instead.
