I dong get it.
Whats the point of cigars?
As a long time cigarette smoker, I never enjoyed cigars. Whats the point of it, when you cant inhale the smoke and get any of that nicotine satisfaction? Just rotting your mouth without at least the nicotine hit?

>> No.11444797

There's so much more nicotine in cigars that it gets absorbed into your system inside your mouth.

i inhale cigars, just not on every pull. They are great for just sticking in your mouth while mowing the lawn or while working on a car. Also, if smoking to you is just how you pace things and excuse taking breaks, cigars are a much longer break and a more involved ritual.

Taste. It's an acquired thing, but if you're actually interested, go to a tobacconist and ask for a good starter cigar.

You also get nicotine through your saliva. I personally spit a lot cause I don't like the gunk, but if you swallow all your spit you'll get a decent buzz.

It's like enjoying fine scotch. If I'm looking to get drunk, I drink cheap beer (cigarettes), if I want to enjoy, I drink better booze (cigars).

How addictive is nicotine?
I've never smoked cigarettes before but I want to try cigars.
But am I going to get addicted to them? What is that craving like?

>> No.11444856

>>11444848
as long as you don't chew or smoke cigarettes, you should be okay. nicotine is really easy to overdose on and deters people from any sort of addiction
the "overdose" is just an intoxicated feeling like when you're drunk but you'll feel physically ill if you go too far

It would be challenging to get addicted to cigars. If you smoke one a day, sure, but cigars are an expensive hobby so it's unlikely you'll smoke enough to get addicted. I was smoking one a week for a few months, and that was great, but the hits of nicotine are still dispersed enough not to worry. Mouth cancer is the primary risk with cigar smoking.

You may not feel like shit, but if you smoke one it's best to try something mild, and really take your time. Ask your local tobacconist for a good starter cigar, it'll be something light and not too large. If you smoke, just do it slowly and assess how you feel. Drink water during, and spit out the saliva that accumulates. Alcohol is great with cigars, but increases your chance for mouth cancer. If you start feeling nauseous don't hesitate to let the cigar die, or throw it away. It'll start tasting raunchy around the 2/3d mark.

cigar smoke has a different ph level than cigarette smoke which allows the nicotine to be absorbed through the mouth instead of lungs.

I share your opinion, OP. It takes up an hour of your time, and really provides none of the "hit" that a cigarette does. I will admit that the flavour is nice, and I would probably not turn one down during a celebration, but I would not seek them out.

I smoke a pipe occasionally, started smoking cigarettes every now and then while drinking with friends who smoke which was a bit silly because I'd end up chaining them while we'd sit in the smoking area. Pipe is way better, load a bowl and smoking it lasts most of the time sat there.

Take it slowly and get a smaller cigar, if you try to smoke a bigass torpedo then it's not going to be fun by the end of it.

>>11444848
It really, really depends on the person, but cigarettes are definitely way easier to fall into. For a little while I was smoking a cigar maybe once a week, but I started wanting to do it less rather than more. This year I've smoked maybe two cigars, plus a couple of cigarettes. On the other hand, I know someone who has a very long commute and smokes two cigars a day every day while driving.

This is the same for me. I smoke pretty regularly, but I never crave a cigarette. I'll just smoke one because I've got nothing better to do; it's almost to keep me from snacking constantly than about the smoke. Whereas I'll start to panic if I can't get alcohol when I want it. I could drop smoking for a year easily, but if I'm not drunk all weekend, I freak.

They aren't addicting. I smoked one cigarette, it is nothing. You can buy a pack, smoke one and throw the pack away or hand it off to someone else that smokes. You could smoke the whole pack. It won't make a difference. The "addiction" to cigarettes comes from behavioral problems. If you already feel like you are going to get addicted from trying one, you probably shouldn't smoke one.

Its like wanting cold soda on a hot day. Sure you don't *need* it, but goddamn doesn't that sound good?
Smoking cigarettes drained 10 bucks out of me every week so I never ran out. And I never wanted to run out.
If you go without you become much more irritable, and your gut lurches and aches as your body freaks out over a lack of nicotine.
And if you do manage to shake off the longing feeling or the pain in your gut, it'll start all over again if you watch someone whip out a smoke and light up.

Ok dipshits, our phrase of the day is "sublingual absorption". Go look it up. It is the same method of absorption dip has. Nicotine is a strong stimulant that passes through skin so unless you have a big ass tolerance for it swallowing will make you vomit and shit your brains out. Anecdotally people who chew or smoke cigars regularly say that the nicotine cravings are stronger than cigarette cravings.

Yes you underaged faggots, cheep cigars do exist, they come in boxes and didnt always get called blunts. That's just you degenerate fucks and your weed culture needing to by high all the time.

Id say it is pretty addicting if you have easy access to it. Ive been smoking cigarettes occasionally for over 4 years and im not addicted. I can understand why people get addicted though because it calms you down and feels pretty good. The only reason im not addicted is because i always go for long periods of time without them though. I only got a pack one time and the only thing that stopped me from getting more is that theyre stupidly expensive where i live.

I've had asthma my entire life and have an extremely oversensitive nose + allergic to literally everything. (The only thing that didn't react in an allergy test was the control.)

Cigarette smoke will instantly make me have to start mouth breathing so I can push air out of my nose. Someone can be smoking 20m away from me and I'll have to wrinkle my nose in literal physical irritation.
I can sit inside cigar smoke and take a deep breath through my nose and even enjoy it.

My crappy body knows which one is shit and which one isn't. Why doesn't yours?

True-ish. It is cigarette tobacco that has had its pH adjusted to match the body's pH - this allow you to inhale it without burning your throat and lungs. It also contains some mild anaesthetic to help with the gag reflex, menthol is one but there are others that dont affect the flavor. Cigar tobacco is at the normal tobacco pH (which is alkaline iirc, though the level varies). Some pipe tobacco is cured with a bit of vinegar to help balance the pH, but not nearly enough to make it inhalable like cigarettes.

Cigars and pipes dont seem to be addictive like cigarettes for some reason, probably because the nicotine doesnt hit you quick like it does with cigarettes, it kind of builds over 20 mins or so so you dont really notice it.

I'm a fairly heavy cigar smoker, during the warmer months (3-5 a week), but I only smoke outside, so, November through March/April, I average, maybe, one or two, each month. I've never experienced any withdrawal symptoms. Every now and again, I get a hankering for one, but that's more an enjoyment of the ritual and the notion of sitting in sub-zero temperatures for an hour is a hefty deterrent. I get a nicotine buzz from them, but I imagine it's too difficulty and expensive to develop a nicotine addiction from them.

>> No.11455862

>>11444848
I smoked like half a pack a day and then quit basically on a whim, wasn't a big deal. Compared to actually drugs it's stupid easy, benzo withdrawals are one of the worst things I've been through, compared to that cigarettes are a joke. Basically what >>11448839 said, sometimes when I drink I really want to smoke because nicotine and alcohol go great together, but whether or not you call that addiction is a different argument. I wouldn't start smoking, but if you do cigarettes kind of suck. Cigars are fine, the issue I'd run into is that any cigar worth smoking is pretty expensive so it's not something that's sustainable (for me) as a regular activity. I'd smoke a pipe if I wanted to smoke again, cheap and good flavor.
