How do I call my local publix, or related grocery store and tell them I will be picking through there garbage. I want to get on there good side.

don't go straight to the dumpsters
call up the store and ask for the produce department
likely an employee who hasn't been working their long will pick up
ask if they have any "trimmings" or damaged product for donation to a food bank
they might - call in the morning for best results
when you get there to pick up, ask if there are any non-produce damaged products in the store you can take
if someone asks what you're doing just say you're the "Food Bank guy", no one will dispute with someone who's being charitable
make it to your car with some boxes

That's how it used to work at my store but idk if it's the same for publix.
