The point of such a bottle is to have plentiful water as handy as possible. If you're dehydrated for one of a thousand random reasons, it's beneficial to have a source of liquid within arm's reach so you don't put off going to the tap because you're busy or lazy. Practically everyone in our society sits too much, and sometimes you can't be bothered to go refill your drink right this moment. Drinking water as mindlessly as possible is great for you, if only because it'll force you to stand up and go to the bathroom from time to time.

>Medical myths
>The advice to drink at least eight glasses of water a day can be found throughout the popular press. One origin may be a 1945 recommendation that stated: A suitable allowance of water for adults is 2.5 litres daily in most instances. An ordinary standard for diverse persons is 1 millilitre for each calorie of food. Most of this quantity is contained in prepared foods. If the last, crucial sentence is ignored, the statement could be interpreted as instruction to drink eight glasses of water a day.

>I drink water all day long, definitely more than 3 litres.
Yeah, that's not normal. What made you even start drinking that much water in the first place? Even just the "eight glasses a day thing" myth way too much:
https://www.bmj.com/content/335/7633/1288
>Medical myths
>The advice to drink at least eight glasses of water a day can be found throughout the popular press. One origin may be a 1945 recommendation that stated: A suitable allowance of water for adults is 2.5 litres daily in most instances. An ordinary standard for diverse persons is 1 millilitre for each calorie of food. Most of this quantity is contained in prepared foods. If the last, crucial sentence is ignored, the statement could be interpreted as instruction to drink eight glasses of water a day.
At best you're not really accomplishing anything, while at worst you might be causing yourself kidney damage:
https://www.renalandurologynews.com/news/too-much-water-could-be-harmful/article/118792/
>Drinking two liters of water per day may not benefit most individuals and even could be harmful, investigators say.
>At the Canadian Society of Nephrology annual meeting here, re-searchers from the University of Western Ontario, also in London, presented a study showing a significant correlation between excess urine production—which is usually caused by excess fluid intake—and proteinuria.
>The large population-based study un-covered a fivefold higher risk of proteinuria among people with polyuria than among those with normal urine volume, even after taking into account such factors as age, sex, and estimated glomerular filtration rate.

>The results indicate that during free access to water humans become thirsty and drink before body fluid deficits develop, perhaps in response to subtle oropharyngeal cues, and so provide evidence for anticipatory thirst and drinking in man.
>Your body's systems are not entirely reliable, for example hook yourself up to a helium tank and see if it tells you you've got no oxygen lol
That doesn't mean your body's not "reliable." The hypercapnic response goes off of higher than usual carbon dioxide blood concentration, not lower than usual oxygen. That has nothing to do with reliability. You're anthropomorphizing biology and trying to treat it like it's somehow getting confused and making a mistake. The fact helium can be used for asphyxiation without triggering the high carbon dioxide response isn't a mistake any more than the fact you can ingest exogenous psychoactive compounds and have them act on receptors that normally work with endogenous neutransmitters is a mistake. In both cases you're just exploiting how the system works to accomplish something different from how it normally operates.

Nope. My dad never drank soda and got type 2 diabetes because: surprise you get it when you're overweight, exactly like every study ever on that topic has been telling you. Meanwhile I'm not overweight, have been drinking plenty of soda for decades, and am well past the age when my dad was diagnosed with routine medical checkups confirming I'm nowhere close to even being pre-diabetic. Don't know how many times I gotta keep telling people like you this, but it's your weight that causes type 2 diabetes you dummy, not sugar. Blood sugar spiking is a problem ***after*** you already broke your body and became diabetic. It isn't a problem for healthy people who don't have diabetes. You're confusing what diabetes makes you vulnerable to with what creates diabetes in the first place.

to actually get water intoxication you'd have to drink at least double that, AND within only a few hours

>3 liters is probably close to the maximum amount a day if we're talking optimal amounts, but why would it be unhealthy?
Because drinking stupid amounts of water like that flushes out the electrolytes you need for normal healthy brain function.
>to actually get water intoxication you'd have to drink at least double that, AND within only a few hours
Water poisoning isn't the only bad thing that can happen from drinking lots of water. What made you even assume that? You don't need to give yourself full blown water poisoning to have screwed up electrolytes.

An anon here mentioned having that specific problem in another thread like this a little while back:

>I was drinking @ 1.5 gallons/day over a period of several months. It really fucked me up. They basically had to force me to be admitted to the hospital because I was a raving lunatic and even when the ER medfag told me I was in serious danger of dying since my sodium level was so low I laughed hysterically and told him to fuck off out of my face, I'm leaving. He had security restrain me and gave me a shot to knock me out.

>durr, let's drink 3 liters of water on top of the 2.5 liters of water daily most adults need that you already get most of just from the amount of water contained in prepared foods... what do you mean I damaged my kidneys and protein is leaking into my urine? But I'm healthy, doctor, look at all this water I've been raping my kidneys with!

Even just 2 liters a day makes you five times more likely for protein to start leaking into your urine i.e. kidney damage:

Your link *disagrees* with setting it at 20%:
>More importantly, from the standpoint of translating an AI into recommended fluid intake for individuals or populations, is the decision in setting the AI to add an additional roughly 20% of water intake, which is derived from some foods in addition to water and beverages. While this may be a legitimate effort to express total water intake as a basis for setting the AI, the recommendations that derive from this IOM report would better be directed at recommendations for water and other fluid intake on the assumption that the water content of foods would be a “passive” addition to total water intake.
The chart at the beginning should've tipped you off to that since it lists off seven common foods that are 70-79% water:
>Bananas, avocados, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, potato (baked), corn (cooked), shrimp
And five more that are 60-69%:
>Pasta, legumes, salmon, ice cream, chicken breast

http://www.food-label-compliance.com/Sites/5/Downloads/Clark-Wm-Walkerton-Health-Study-2008.pdf
>In a small group of healthy WHS participants with polyuria and proteinuria, proteinuria was reduced following voluntary restriction of fluid intake. Similar results were observed in a study of university students, which demonstrated an increase in urine protein following increased fluid intake. Protein levels returned to baseline after normal fluid intake resumed. These results suggest that the increase in urinary protein excretion in healthy subjects is induced solely through acute fluid loading.
>In analysis of the entire WHS cohort, polyuria was the strongest predictor of proteinuria. These results are relevant in assisting practitioners to interpret 24-hr urine tests for protein. These tests are commonly performed, and often lead to treatment decisions. Physicians should be aware that the strongest factor associated with proteinuria on a 24hr urine in the general population is not in fact comorbid disease, but polyuria.
>The long-term renal consequences of chronic exposure to mild proteinuria in polyuric individuals are unknown. Further research is needed to provide insight into the question of whether the proteinuria caused by polyuria is harmful to kidney function. Such a finding would have important public health implications given the silent nature of kidney disease and the widespread, but unsubstantiated belief that drinking eight glasses of water per day is healthy.

Anything can fail. You don't base your behavior on an assumption that your body *isn't* working properly. That's like taking insulin because you could get diabetes.
